I adore this effect!
Without a doubt, the 'battered photo' effect has to be one of the best in the new edition (although I did this from the sample page before I received the book)!

Thanks Steve, I know I'll be using this quite a lot in the future!

Hey! Brilliant! Yes, this one does work particularly well. I love those effects that are self-running!

Trinity,

This composition was really well done, I particularly like how you got the edges of the photo.

Well Done,

Carl

One small comment (and you know you'd hate it if i didn't point something out!): the border follows the line of the ripped edge, but should of course be square to the photo.

If you want to create a torn effect using this border technique, use a larger (hard) brush and allow it to wiggle slightly as you trace freehand around the edge. Looks far more convincing.

I see what you mean., the same way as you do the poster in the book. I was going more for the 'buckled' effect, rather than torn but I can see places where I should have added a bit more shading to give it a more 3 dimensional effect.

Thanks, I do my best, though 50% of the credit should go to Steve's technique for this one

Warhol's prophecy.....
I've been published!!

I received the new edition of Digital Photography Techniques today. A full page "Jules' Ghost". It didn't win but like they say, it's all about taking part.

Again, credit must go to Steve's amazing technique.

Congratulations! That's excellent news. And as you say, the winning is only a small part of the deal.

Technique is also just a part of the effect. The real skill lies in knowing what you want to achieve: and it's your eye for mood and composition that wins out here.

Haven't seen anything new from you for a while - are you hibernating?

Steve

I haven't really done much in the way of images lately, I've been working on the design for my site and helping out with PixelAddiction.com. 'Tis a busy life
