movie version?
imagine having to put sunglasses over your face with photoshop? Now imagine for real. Have you ever considered putting the book's core skills on a DVD as a movie...kinda like Total Training does with Deke? I think this is what is missing in Total Training series now. |

Yes, you're right - and the new edition (whenever that may be) will certainly have more movies on the CD. Trouble is, those things are damned time consuming to create... |

To be honest, I don't go for movie tutorials very much at all. You have to bring up the tutorial in QuickTime and watch as it's all explained then open up Photoshop and then try to remember what you have just learnt, which usually means stopping and starting QuickTime step by step and flicking between QuickTime and Photoshop. I much perfer to open a book and have it ready on my desk as I open up Photoshop and read through the tutorial. One thought would be to have sound annotations attached to the tutorial files and verbally talk you through what needs to be done. It might be an interesting idea if Photoshop were to colaborate with QuickTime and have a player that can be activated within Photoshop allowing for direct movie tutorials. |

I love the movies on the CD, personally I just find it easier to follow. The light shade one is great, makes the whole job much quicker from my point of view. I spose different things work for different people. |

10 people can read the same thing and come away with 10 different understandings, movies are very easy to understand. |

I am ashame to say I have yet to view Steve's movies on the HTCIPS disc. I suppose that's because I tend to adapt tutorials to my own style. However I will promise Steve that I will view the movie files if for nothing more that curiosity about his voice. And I hope, Steve, that you haven't got one of the Adobe Movie Tutorial drone voices, I get so bored when viewing them and think they should be forced to take voice acting lessons so they all sound like Brian Blessed
edit: I've just run through all your video tutorials and have to say they are absolutely fantastic and wonder why I didn't view them earlier. I can honestly say they were the best movie tutorials I've ever come across as I normally had a very dim view of such things, but now I'm impressed - just like your book they're straight to the point with no faffing about. Great Stuff - more please

All the movies need recreating for the third edition, which frankly I'm finding a bit of a daunting prospect. They take so damn long to do! It's not the visuals, it's recording the soundtrack afterwards that takes the time. Then I listen back to what I've recorded, and I'm generally horrified. On the one hand, you've got these slick American pros like Russell Brown performing his socks off, then you get me whispering into a microphone. Must try to improve my technique. Strange, really, I can do it in front of an audience, but I get embarrassed performing to a mike. Sorry, I don't know where that ramble came from. I hope to do a load more movies for the third edition, because I think they are a useful way to get a technique across. But I'm thinking of swapping the voiceover for written text captions - what do you think? |

Subtitles are the way forward, definitely. Not everyone can have their speakers on, for various reasons or have to have them so low that you strain to hear. A visual commentary would be far better. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Good. That way, you could stop the movie to read the text fully. I agree. Of course, it does mean my Hugh Grant accent will forever be lost to the US market... |

Sounded muffled and hesitant to me. Perhaps I should get a QuickTime recording of one of my lecture sessions and stick that on instead! But I think it's going to be text overlays from now on. Oh, all right, I might just stick a little welcome movie in there as well just for the hell of it. |
