Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
Another wilfully misinterpreted French sign this week - this time, what appears to be a government-sponsored service for the prevention of tranquility.

What on earth can be going on behind those doors?

High res is here.

Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
It takes me on average at least 8 hours or more to do an animation, for which I must be sufficiently motivated, so when ANOTHER "facile-pseudo-quasi" silly ha-ha notion comes with (ha-ha-ha) half a door and a bit of wall, one is severely disappointed: giving us the whole building--let alone the whole door--would have given a better creative base upon which to work.

Michael - you seem to be lacking some tranquillity today. Perhaps you should be on the staff there?? You could even blow the b***** doors off, like in the Italian Job!

Good work Emy. Sorry to be a kill-joy, but that's a government building. They won't feel so happy, chilled, tranquil and relaxed when the cops arrive!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sorry you did not know this, but the guy on the left is the Governor's son and on the right is the Governor's nephew, so the police will never be called.

Ah, of course! One rule for the rich and one for the poor. Just like here.

Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
No time to do this but I was intrigued enough by this to ask a lot of French speakers what this might mean. I certainly have no idea. Nobody else has a clue either. Most said it quite simply makes no sense at all.

The smartest suggestion so far is that because each line is capitalised it could be three separate departments on the first floor.

This still leaves some open questions ...... what the hell is the department of Tranquillity.

My best guess is that it's one of those curt mission statements that businesses and politics love so much nowadays. The 21st century equivalent of a motto. Think of it on one line with full stops.

Service. Prevention. Peace of mind. The motto for a justice department ........ ?
