Love keeping tabs on you guys, be it silently from the shadows. Happy New Year to everybody. David, your second image cracked me up. I hope it's thawed out.

I have shamelessly stolen the chimney opening from Anna! Can you ever forgive me?

On the other hand cutting him out was a tremendously difficult task. I have subscribed rather reluctantly to CC 2018. I am sorry to say that I now understand perfectly why Select and Mask has come in for such fierce criticism and complaint from press and users alike. I ended up quick selecting and quite simply tidying up and painting the rest by hand.

OK - I am an old hand and I should know better than to expect miracles - but Adobe should know better than to try and sell them to us .............. very disappointing.

I watched a Scott Kelby video showing how to use Select and Mask. The subject was a young woman with rather dark auburn hair against a plain, lighter-than-mid-grey background ... just the kind of challenging background that we all have every time we do this kind of work. Even with this background I noticed that not all of the hairs were extracted

And I thought it was just me.

Down (some issues), but not out.

Nice work lwc, I'm glad you're regular contributor now.

Again nice work Anna, and how are the talks with Spielberg going?

Sara, I would of liked a bigger moon with a corresponding bigger Santa and sleigh, and some action in the middle of your movie too.

Thank you, Michael, for commenting on my submission. Did the middle section where the sleigh bells gradually got louder make you tense, uncomfortable or annoyed? Were you wondering just when was something - anything - going to happen, if ever? If so, then that section did what I had hoped it would do. Art doesn't always make you happy. Sometimes it nettles the heck out of you.

Re: Challenge 686: Down the chimney
First to decorate the rooftop was DavidMac, with a rather splendid Santa dressed in perfectly matching headgear. Sorry you've been having such trouble with Select and Mask - it can behave itself fairly well, if you're patient with it. A terrific second entry - especially those spot-on reflections (apart from the very minor mishap beneath his left boot).

An ingenious cheat from Ben Mills - surprised to see Santa isn't wearing a bikini, Ben. I like the night effect, and that's a rather beautifully lit doorway.

A fun entry from lwc, with a somewhat provocative elf and Santa's sleigh in the background. I like the new sky, and the darkened floor does look rather better. Something about the reindeer reflection is bothering me, but I can't work out what it is. I like the double Santas in the second entry, but unless the one in the foreground is especially short, keep those eyes on the same level. Good flying action in the third entry - an effective technique. A homage to H G Wells in the fourth entry, with its splendid animated version. Also, Lawrence (I'm guessing here, in the absence of a declared first name) I know you're a prolific Photoshop user, and I'm hugely grateful for your banners that have kept us going for so long, but we do try to limit ourselves to two entries per Challenge.

I enjoyed Emy's rather beautiful snow scene, with the chimneys just poking out at the back. Not sure about those distant snow-covered trees in front of them, though, but it very nearly works.

A fun rain scene from Linda Eckert, making full use of that water-covered roof. It would have to be a lot of rain for the girl on the right to be in it up to her ankles - but then the girl on the left is standing on top of it! She could do with a bit of reflection as well, don’t you think?

A self-inflating Santa bursts out of Ant Snell's chimney, sleigh neatly tethered nearby. He appears to have mislaid his reindeer, though. Thanks for the card! And also for the second entry, with its spectacular fireworks.

The chimneys in tooquilos' entry have taken to the skies - and they do look rather good up there. I like how you've kept them in their original positions. The floating action works well with the smoke in the animated version, and the way Santa parachutes in is terrific. The firepit dancing sequence is just splendid!

An alternative Santa from Deborah Morley, with a nicely assembled image - how long ago was it that we used that bear? It all looks so good that I won't even mention that the top of the sleigh is sloping up when it should be sloping down towards the horizon. Oh, it just slipped out.

A serene night view from srawland, complete with Santa's sleigh flying ET-style in front of the moon. Talking of which... shouldn't such a bright moon require a reflection? I like the haunting music in the animated version, and the suggestion of moving legs on the reindeer. Perhaps the moon should move a little during the long middle sequence when nothing is happening? I like the drop-in chimney, and the guy at the end is a perfect touch. Excellent sound effects throughout.

I think Gaudi would have strongly approved of Mariner's remodelling - that new edifice on the left is a perfect fit. Splendid new floor, and getting rid of those unsightly railings must have been a nightmare. You do set yourself impossible tasks! Glorious.

Happy new year, everyone.

Good guess Steve, but actually it's Loyd. I've added it to my profile. Sorry about the number of entries, I got carried away with different ideas. I'm just glad that I didn't post the other two, I probably would have been banned...

Thanks for your comments.
