Challenge 690: The monarch's bed
I was privileged to attend an event in the Speaker's Apartments in the House of Commons this week, and very magnificent they are too, restored (at great expense) to their Victorian splendour. One of the rooms contains, rather bizarrely, a large four poster bed - and it turns out this is the bed in which the monarch traditionally spends the night before their coronation. Odd, then, to have two tables of eight seats each in the same room; to have a screen which, being made of glass, offers no privacy whatsoever; and to have no washing or bathing facilities. Can you prepare this room for when King Charles needs it? High res is here. |

A hangover from the days when Monarchs held levees (and only bathed once a year whether they needed it or not) perhaps? _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

I'm posting this now... I have a tendency to fiddle with these things until I ruin them. Work with me here, the room is a step or two down from the bath. |

For something you threw together in under 4 hours, Loyd, that is really very good! |

The following quote comes from the site of Humphries Weaving who provided the silk woven fabrics for this suite. "The Speaker’s State Bed is situated in the State Bedroom and was originally intended for the monarch to sleep in on the night before the Coronation. This is a state room often used for receptions and entertaining, with the grand state bed acting as focal point." Like Josephine's 25 year old model this is open to interpretation ........ _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thanks Michael - I appreciate your kind words. I knew from the start what an animation might look like. I might as well apply the same thinking to complete my work for the week. |

Loyd it has now become apparent you are an "accomplished Photoshopper": you're no beginner! Your animated entry is both consummate and perfect: it's the "gold Star" for you my laddo. I downloaded your Photoshop banner Gif and looked at the three images, and I could hardly detect any difference in the propellers: so subtle, yet so effective for realism. |

Thanks Mr. Sinclair - I'm glad you like the animated version... thinking about it after the fact, I could have made only the one. The propeller bit is something I learned a long time ago... the old three frame illusion trick. Trivia: The airplane is a Riley Rocket (modified Cessna 310), the first small plane I ever had a ride in. |

CAUTION! EXTREME POOR TASTE ALERT! PARENTAL GUIDANCE ADVISED. 'Inspired' by the quote from the weavers of the tapestries: "This is a state room often used for receptions and entertaining, with the grand state bed acting as focal point." With apologies to to Poussin, Wtewael, Couture, Ricci, Corinth, Van Haarlem and Delacroix. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

"I knight thee." So that's what it was called in those days. "You're not going to put THAT on my shoulder!" Gives a different meaning to "hood" in Knighthood. Enough now Dennis. Work! _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Steve you must be psychic: how did you know that this is my favourite kind of entry? UPDATED got the two far left hand propellers moving. |

Re: Challenge 690: The monarch's bed
Thanks Loyd, as you can NOW see in both your quote and my entry that I have fixed the far left-hand side propellers to move more realistically. However, your propellers are much better than mine: that is to say better, and more realistic. |

Re: Challenge 690: The monarch's bed
You're comparing apples and oranges... it is very difficult to make this illusion work with the background moving, or any other animated object in the scene. Getting the timing right is key, note that mine is on a very static background. It's a matter of compromise. You had to make the propellers and the sky work together... mine is timed only with the propellers. |

Thanks to everyone who gave me a shout out of welcome during the last challenge. I say, have the posting rules been relaxed? Maximum 500-600 pixels along the longest edge and 122.88KB?? I wouldn't mind puffing mine up a bit to show more detail.
