Tony really is a gem. I am so lucky he is willing to help me.

Re: Challenge 725: Halfway up the stairs
First to populate the staircase was DavidMac, with a mouse-themed montage. Ingenious lighting on the bannister spindles, and some splendidly naughty mice - taking the Ian Dury song somewhat literally. Reminds me of a workshop I did a few years ago entitled Anthropomorphic Mouse Taxidermy. A great second entry - covering up those painstakingly lit spindles! A truly ingenious third entry, with the fireplace surround doing duty as an art deco cinema frontage. Well observed, but mainly especially well executed.

There ought to be a way I could fine people for mentioning Christmas at the beginning of October. But it’s a cheery scene from GKB nonetheless, even if that roaring fire does scupper Santa’s chances of escaping up the chimney.

Clever work from Ben Mills, with a Harry Potter reference - very nicely composed. I see Dobby still has his sock. I like the lighting.

A Dennis Wheatley-inspired horror from lwc - and that’s some magnificent ectoplasm. Trying to work out where the woman can be standing, though, to be so low in the frame. That’s a cute skeleton in the second entry - but has he lost his lower jaw?

I can’t see any of michael sinclair’s animations because photobucket is down this morning. Will try again later. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Ben Hur, but what really struck me from your clip is how ragged the marching is - they’re all out of step. Sergeant, clap those men in irons.

A nicely redecorated hall from tooquilos, with new (but neatly peeling) wallpaper and an artfully broken window. That’s even a new key hanging on no 13. An amazing animated version, with scene after scene of creepy horror. There’s a real sense of menace to this, from the swinging key to the twins from The Shining - and a fantastic final scene in the attic. Stunning, Anna, and truly creepy. Not sure you need the exchange between the guest and the clerk, it does rather break the flow.

Great subtlety from Jota120, with lava seeping through the fireplace - and a perfectly lit woman escaping down the stairs. I really like the lighting in this scene. Very tasteful.

I like the way Mariner has turned the fire surround into a rather magnificent temple entrance - and that’s a splendid pair of doors, too. Why are the monk’s feet hovering above the floor, though? I’d have thought that from this angle we wouldn’t see the tops of his feet at all.

A rather fine old book from Tom, nicely lit with a bouquet of dead flowers. Trying to reconcile the photograph with the date on the book - and, indeed, the fact that in 1768 books only had their titles on their spines… but I do like the spelling of ‘Photoshoppe’.

A curious resident from srawland, who clearly slept in an awkward position last night. What have you done to him??? A glorious animated version, with a fantastic trio of dancing ladies - and there’s real pathos in the exchange, particularly the man’s plaintive plea at the end. I hugely enjoyed this one, Sara, watched it several times.

Many thanks, Josephine, for the inspiring image.

Photobucket is back online - which means I finally get to write up michael sinclair's animation. I see your taste for destruction hasn't diminished... but what's with the perspective? The fireplace is now located in front of the rear half of the bannister, but not scaled up! An interesting abstraction of the bannister rail in the second entry, but what's that dead centre - is it from a video game, or does your cursor really resemble a spear head?

Why, because his legs are so short and he is pointing his toes downwards.

Glad you enjoyed Steve. This one was fun!

Funnily everyone, you included, seems to have missed that the first image I posted, in the little exchange with Josephine on down market hotels, was in fact a simple entry. The saloon front was made from the fireplace. A very simple idea which gave rise to the cinema to follow.

Ah - I didn't notice the fireplace!

Thank you, Steve.

The man is contorted because I used Mixamo's "Old person standing idle." It's a little ageist but he has some great weaving action that the regular standing idle doesn't have.

The pathos is all Tony. He deserves a huge thanks for doing these.

It's still there, but it has broken loose and is dangling a bit... in some frames it disappears completely with all that jumping around and lighting FX.

Here's one frame:

Thanks...

That's a very syphilitic looking jaw, if it is indeed one .......

He's in pretty bad shape, that's for sure. The broken jaw shows up a little more in this 'almost black & white' version that didn't make the cut...

Re: Challenge 725: Halfway up the stairs
Here's a copy of the 'green screen' I made so the skeleton could be animated... the drooping jaw shows up much better in this original.
