Thank you all for your comments about my last ditch rescue install. All went well enough to at least be able to reply here now.

Lots still to do.

I am replying to you all in chronological order in one long reply.

Well yes. But it’s had a good number of medical ‘procedures’ and much younger ’transplants’ which have kept the worst effects of ageing at bay for now.She still has a powerful mind (well eight actually) doing their best, fairly successfully, to keep up. As we all know - as we grow older it’s the little exterior bits that fall off that cause the most trouble.

Gordon buried my treasure under a very expensive looking headstone …………… and Loyd commented:

It would seem so.

David, that is the brute force method. It nearly always works well.

Yes. But I hope to never have to do it again. It's taken forever and I still am not finished with restoring everything manually.

A timely resurrection. Just what I needed. Nicely done too Gordon!

So to bring you up to date.

I didn’t want to do a time machine restore in case I restored the gremlins with the good stuff. So I spent a long time double backing up terabytes of data which I really couldn’t bear to lose. Then re-formatted and re-installed apps one by one. (I never thought I would have a reason to love the app store but their pre-registered apps were a doddle).

But there is always an Achilles heel. Massive local mailboxes are one. Years of mails which I backed up locally. Turns out they won’t re-load. All lost for now. Hoping I can restore from user library backup - but meddling with stuff at that level makes me nervous. Another is apps that worked fine but have since disappeared from the market place. I can install them but can no longer re-register or activate them.
But 80% success so far and my machine is running really smoothly so fingers crossed it was worth it.

We shall see ........

Northern Exposure. (Blast from the past) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnpEf9Dd0yI

This looks a bit weird compared to my original (?)
might have been the sunlight shinning through my room....

Re: Challenge 727: A moose in the hoose
First to bring the moose back to life was GKB, with a condolence for DavidMac’s computer. A nicely made gravestone, complete with engraved Apple loco; but don’t over-condense your fonts! The text really doesn’t have to fill the whole space. Cute moose. A tremendous animated version - reminds me of the days of screensavers with flying toasters.

Plenty going on in lwc's first entry, a serene river scene with rippling water, floating birds and butterflies, a twitching ear and a nodding baby moose. Very cute; I particularly like the smooth bump. A golfing moose in the second entry - butt here’s our pair in the distance, behind the animated fountain. These are very entertaining. Brake for moose, says the third entry - and you can see why they’re big beasts. Does the Big Moose Deli serve, er, moose? A really charming fourth entry, although there’s something not quite right about that toy moose by the door - no shadow? Too saturated? Wrong angle? Too high? A distraction, I’d leave it out.

Moose hunting from Ant Snell - with a fine pair of antlers added for good measure. Nicely composed, but I wonder if a telescopic sight is really necessary at a distance of about four feet.

A remarkable restrained entry from Ben Mills, the moose neatly transplanted to a highland setting. I like the way you’ve matched the type of grass to the original.

A calm forest from srawland, the angle of the sunlight perfectly matching the lighting on the moose - well chosen. And it’s a pine forest, too, which is appropriate for Sweden. Neat work.

A lakeside setting complete with Northern Lights from tooquilos - which I did see, briefly, through the trees. The animated version brings it to life, a cute graphic showing my progress from London to Skellenseå. I like the way our moose appears with a bunch of others crossing the road. Not sure about the floating torch, though, which waves around the scene shining its beam but without actually illuminating anything. The final lake scene is beautiful, and subtly animated.

I like the way Jota120 has matched the grain in his homage to Northern Exposure - not a show I ever saw, but I watched the first few minutes of the link you sent. Does he catapult the cow in the end?

A wintry scene from Deborah Morley - looks like those moose have been transported to the Himalayas. They do blend in rather well, though, don’t they.

A splendid scene from Mariner, who has persuaded the baby moose to walk - or is that a different moose picture? I really like the tracks in the snow.

Thanks Steve,
As far as I recall, the cow was not catapulted. This clip ends before its conclusion. Memories of the 1990s when mobile phones were rare.

Re: Challenge 727: A moose in the hoose
Thank you Steve...

I agree that the toy moose is distracting, although it wasn't so glaring for me until your comment. Colors used on children's toys can be rather garish indeed. There is a very slight shadow, not really noticeable unless you compare 'with' and 'without' side by side.
I believe saturation to be the main culprit... I simply used the toy image as I found it.

I made several versions without the toy moose, some without the cat and dog as well, one was with a houseplant. As a composition question, would the image with the plant have been better or as you stated, simply better with nothing at all? Perhaps the plant is distracting too.

I always look forward to your critiques, thanks again!

The house plant doesn't really look right to me. Seems rather stuck on. I don't think you need it - simplicity is often best.

Got it! I often get carried away and add way too much.

Thanks!
