Challenge 733: The Nipper controversy
Two weeks ago I mentioned that the HMV dog, Nipper, was originally painted sitting on a coffin. It turns out, according to DavidMac's research, that this may be an apocryphal story. I think the internet could do with some images to back up this urban myth. Can you help me to pervert the course of history? High res is here.  |

I suspect many of the British males here will remember, as I do, the Eagle comic with "Dan Dare Pilot of the Future" fighting the evil Mekon. The Eagle was pretty much 'de rigeur' for any middle class boy in the forties and fifties. Every week it featured a centrefold called the Eagle Cutaway. Most of these were produced by an artist called L Ashwell Wood and featured cutaway images of how things work: steam locomotives, battleships, planes, you name it. This page was one of my absolute favourites I just loved it! How on earth I have come to make a connection between this and Nipper I have no idea. It literally popped into my head from nowhere. This has been quite a difficult challenge however the entries so far are fantastic. Jospehine I laughed with yours! David, the cutaway is brilliant. Gordon, I absolutely love it!
