Just to check you haven't all gone to sleep .... after which bird are the Canary islands named?

My initial thought was the obvious..Canaries. But upon further investigation I was quite surprised with the answer. I didn't know this. You never know when this bit of trivia will come in handy!!

The puns have made me Husky laughing. We may need some Pointers as to the meaning of Canary Islands.

Hope you can Setter 'nother puzzle like that one.

I'm sure I Mastiff missed a few other puns but I think I should Collie halt to these now.

Re: Challenge 738: Cave painting
DavidMac set the bar high with the first entry - immaculate lighting, a great sunset and a fine cast of characters bring this scene to life. But why is the man lower left pounding a bone with a rock? I think it’s already dead. Loved the Tintin references in the second entry, but - oh, the perspective of that rocket gantry! The horizon needs to be on our eyeline. Is it toppling over?

Cool lighting effects from lwc - and I want to yell “behind you!” to those cavemen who seem oblivious to the mammoth. I particularly like the half-skinned skull. Similarly, the people in the second entry seem more interested in posing for the camera than watching the erupting volcano… perhaps a camera phone is more shocking for them? Fun cavemen and flying saucers in the third entry.

A homage to 2001 from GKB, with some beautiful lighting and some intrigued apes. The bones seem a little yellow for the lighting, though. A good stab at the perspective for the block.

Plenty of accessories for Frank's cave people, nicely populating the space. Those conquistadors seem to be hovering in space, though… should they be a little further down?

Good to see Linda Eckert back, with a beautiful sculpture that neatly resonates with the loneliness of the location. Simple, but very effective.

I see Ben Mills is back on form, with a racy trio of cave dollies. Nice lighting. But what - no Raquel Welch?

Great to see The Flintstones in Ant Snell’s entry, with a replaced background and their stone age TV. Perhaps they should be a little more blue in the reflected TV light?

What looks like a dozing Greek orthodox priest in tooquilos's entry - has he wandered off course? A fantastic travelogue in the animated version, with a wide array of caves in a watery setting. The mix of live action video with animated stills is beautifully accomplished. A great parallax effect as we back into the cave, too - and those flames really bring it to life. Fascinating to read your explanation of the techniques, too.

Steve, sorry for my very late entry. I ran out of time and you decided to post early. Here it is anyway.

Posing for the photographer? Working up an appetite?

but - oh, the perspective of that rocket gantry! The horizon needs to be on our eyeline. Is it toppling over?

I knew I would never get that past you! You are, of course, quite right. Sadly it was the only remotely usable image I could find. We are looking up at the top which is OK (sort of) and I simply gambled that by hiding the lower part it might just pass muster. The image stops where it disappears below the cave edge and so I couldn't raise it higher for a proper match as there was nothing more to play with. So I offered it up anyway as it was more for fun value rather than PS skills.

Re: Challenge 738: Cave painting
…and a late entry from Mariner, with a pair of surprisingly sophisticated cavemen playing cards while a Spanish galleon waits offshore. A new table, and I see you’ve tidied the floor as well. And a well-placed horizon!

Thanks Steve.

In the second entry, I visualized the female pointing out to the others, that the fellow in the foreground, was the miserable wretch that painted gibberish on her otherwise pristine cave walls...

I was unusually early this week, as I had an 8.30 meeting to get to. Back to normal schedule from now on!
