Challenge 994: Pumping iron
I photographed this back at the Cambridge Museum of Technology, on a repeat visit a few weeks ago. I have absolutely no idea what it is, but I thought it could have new life as a handy household appliance.

See what you can make of it…

High res is here.

It's a 2-cylineer Brotherhood steam engine coupled to a Crompton-Parkinson alternator.

Re: Challenge 994: Pumping iron
Looks like Alec Guinness, but other than that I have no idea.

Edit: It finally came to me although I've only seen the film one time about fifteen years ago. Should have been more obvious after prior comments by David and Steve.

Letting the car warm up before giving Max a ride back to the Thunderdome… Disclaimer: Car was AI generated and then modified by me. Background is probably AI but found in a Google image search. There are two animated rats in the animation, I’m pointing them out only because they are so small and dark that it is unlikely that anyone would spot them.

Re: Challenge 994: Pumping iron
Loyd I've only found one rat even knowing I need to look. I've been having similar apocalyptic/steam punky thoughts.

Ben I find the steam vacuum very clever - just enough echo of the original yet radically different.
