While You Were Asleep
I was recently asked to do a presentation on Infrared Photography. Mostly it was still images shot in near infrared but I concluded with a short film of wildlife in the far infrared which is getting towards heat-based imaging. All of the footage was shot in and around my village of Ditchling using a 'Trail camera' which I could leave out overnight then recover a day or so later. The film is just over 9 minutes long so, if you want to watch it all the way through, i would get a nice cup of tea and a plate of choccie biccies. http://vimeo.com/251030139 _________________ Time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana. |

Lovely! A lot of patience involved I suspect. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

No, no real patience required. The foxes are regular visitors to my garden so I just position the camera where I want it and put out some dog food for them. The badger sets are about a mile from my house in a woodland setting owned by some friends. Again I just frame the shot and put some peanuts in shot. Putting the food very close to the camera gets me the close-ups. The camera has an infrared detector similar to that fitted to a household security light and is set to shoot a one minute piece of video when triggered by a passing heat source. I leave the camera to do its own thing for a couple of nights and the animals take their own series of selfies. The lighting comes from an infrared light source built into the camera. This light is completely invisible to the animals in this particular camera. No light and no noise means that they are not disturbed. Where I do need patience is trying to film the local deer as they are not creatures of such well defined habit - still waiting for those shots. _________________  |

That is just wonderful Gordon. Beautiful to see the wildlife getting on with their business while no one is watching them. I laughed with the fox though..I screen captured the scene. He spots the camera, looks at it..and then walks away!!  _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |
