Re: Challenge 799: Empty streets
After talking to Steve, Gordon, Anna and David the other day, I felt I really had to get back into this forum. I often start on something and then don't finish, but Steve said Post anyway. So here it is. So much can be improved, but it is a start, I have so much to relearn.

Amazing Gordon, Happy I didn't see this before I posted mine.

Post apocalyptic was my first thought on this one. Yes, morbid..yes, depressing..but as David said...more fun to Photoshop!

I saw bits of this behind you the other day, your talent is amazing, I seriously considered not posting after seeing what you had done.

Thanks Vibeke. It was great to see you again and I’m so pleased to see getting back into harness again. Don’t worry it’s like riding a bike, it will all come flooding back.

Alas, my beloved cat, Bruno, died on Saturday. It has given me more time to work on things like this. I would have dedicated this to him but it didn't seem proper.

Re: Challenge 799: Empty streets
First to fill Piccadilly Circus this week was Frank, with a cast of thousands - perfectly sized and arranged, with those excellent shadows making all the difference. Did you find them all together like that? A powerful animated version, with a haunting soundtrack that’s very affecting. And I think the final sequence answered my earlier question!

A fine selection of passers-by from DavidMac, complete with mime artist sitting on nothing. The billboard is very nicely composed - and neatly bent around that corner. I think the decision to put the text on the flat area was a good one. I really like the contrast between the second and third entries - beautifully realised, from a very fine idea. And very much in the zeitgeist.

How does Mariner, with his penchant for cleaning up, deal with a scene bereft of people? By cleaning up the pigeons, of course. And very neatly removed they are, too. I like the new billboard - but shouldn’t the word NOW be bending down to follow the angle at the bottom?

A post-human setting from tooquilos, with much desolation: I particularly like the crack in the building, and the plant life growing through and over it. Great flying leaves in the animated version really bring it to life. I wonder if there’s a way to make Eros not look as if he’s flying off the pedestal?

It’s War of the Worlds from Ant Snell - combining the latest BBC production with some invaders that are altogether more retro. The leg tucked behind Eros really gives it a sense of scale - nice work. But wouldn’t it be better if the buildings, and particularly the man, took on some of the colouring indicated by that sky?

Cheerleading from GKB- and why not, indeed. It’s certainly true that the NHS is something to be justifiably proud of. Loyd, Sara, what’s happening with healthcare in the US? How are private hospitals coping with the pandemic? A glorious animated version, with a trashed Piccadilly Circus and rolling tumbleweed (now that’s had to travel a long way). Would it be too hard to make the newspaper curl as it flies? Seems a bit too flat. The animated billboard is perfect. And that’s a great ending - but would be much better if the crowd were split into multiple segments so they don’t all move as one. I like the fly-past! And much better with the smoke.

A really funny animation from michael sinclair, who’s stayed on topic for this week. Love those swivelling hips. Small issue: the shadows on the ground are in the opposite direction from the lighting on the buildings… but hey ho, it doesn’t really matter. Fun.

A nicely realised post-consumer society scene from Vibeke, with grass taking over the pavement and nicely torn billboards. The Union Jack is a good addition. You’ve even cut the grass around the pigeons! All it really needs is a little ground shadow beneath the people. Great to see you back on the Forum!

Looks like some cheerleading from srawland - and a rather fine new billboard. Great moves in the animated version - really nicely put together. And a moving message. Very sorry about Bruno.

It is a bit, but obviously not enough.

Re: Challenge 799: Empty streets
Thanks Steve. I must say I hadn’t thought of layering the crowd to move separately- great idea.

I tried to curl the paper but for some reason it just refused point blank to curl. There’s a task for me in the confined months ahead along with layering the crowd.

Great work from everyone.

Sara - Sorry to hear about Bruno.

Re: Challenge 799: Empty streets
Thanks Steve. Had hard time with the first one. Not very strong on ideas. The second/third combo gave me much more satisfaction.
