Mariner, very nice, pretty pic, - paddles look small

Thanks, Frank, this one was for the ladies. Now you mention it the paddles do look small. Too late now.

Nicely done Frank...

Mariner, looks very peaceful... well done!

I was well past the hippy thing... but I do recall going to a few 'beatnik' coffee houses.

Ah, David, I too was a hippy for a while back in the sixties. I was too poor then to be able to afford a camera, so no photos. I presume that the Jamaican girl is a girlfriend from your Bob Marley days.

My first wife!

Re: Challenge 872: Float my boat
Both a sad and happy story Michael.

I met Janet, and fell in love, while filming in Jamaica. She was the leading actress. After the film was finished she came to live with me in England. Later we married and had two children. She was a very fine woman. Tragically, she died of a massive cerebral haemorrhage when our boys were just four and seven. We had been together seventeen years.

I was a single Dad for a while. I married my present wife Ingrid some three years later. Happily she was not the step mother of fairy tales - the boys loved her, and she them. As far as they are concerned she is Mama and, to her, they are her sons. She will fight for them as fiercely as any birth mother. We have been together now thirty two years.

I realise this may cause some of you to wonder how to respond. The sad part is long, long ago now and the boys grown into fine men of whom Ingrid and I are inordinately proud. As for us, we are entering our senior years as much in love as we were thirty year ago.

So happy endings.

David, I never imagined you as a full fledged hippy! But you suit the part. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story, I was touched by it.

Re: Challenge 872: Float my boat
First to launch the boat was lwc, with a fine misty medieval scene. I like the look of pride on the man’s face. Your water, however, has a rather peculiar texture to it, and he could really do with some oars. I like the motion in the second entry, and that tortoise certainly adds interest. The bird is splendid. No moose?

I like tooquilos's stoneage boat, and the man on the right adds a great human element. My only comment is that perhaps the boat is floating a little high in the water. Entertaining saw action in the animated version - but I’m guessing you’re not a woodworker!

Spectacular work from DavidMac, with two craftsmen building the boat. Absolutely faultless, David, and the perspective is spot on. Outstanding. And I did enjoy the second entry! Although there choice of a monospaced font is curious. Good to meet the first Mrs Mac, and to read her touching story.

A terrific entry from Vibeke, with the boat in the background of a very dramatic scene. Shadows, lighting, threat, emotion, it’s all there. Splendid!

It’s Lego/Duplo time for GKB, with a hark back to childhood in his pirate ship. I like the skeleton on the desert island. Great to hear that theme tune again in the animated version, and I like the rippling Lego sea. I’m sure Captain Pugwash never assassinated wildlife in my day. Historical note: some years ago I visited the Museum of the Moving Image, where, in a glass case, I came face to face with the actual cardboard cutout that was Captain Pugwash. It was like being in the presence of royalty.

An on-topic michael sinclair, with a surprisingly juddering boat for such a calm river. Very nicely done, though. I like how the camera pans with the boat in the second entry, although it’s a shame about the jump when the animation restarts. There must be some way to blend the left and right edges to prevent this happening. A couple of technical points: we shouldn’t be able to see the reflection of the trees through the reflection of the boat; and since we’re looking at the boat from above, we shouldn’t be able to see its interior in the reflection.

Captain’s log! Brilliant gag from Josephine Harvatt. I like the two moons.

I like the receding tide in Frank's animation, and the way the boat drifts off into the water. The foreground grasses place it neatly in the scene, and that’s an impressive lightning strike. A cleverly changed view on the search party!

Gorgeous work from Mariner, a truly beautiful and serene image. I really like how you’ve populated the boat, and those pink flowers are suitably exotic to add a lot of interest. Just one really, really minor quibble: shouldn’t the reflected clouds be the other way up?
