"I still find it bizarre." David, I also found it strange when doing the challenge that the ship appeared to be going backwards especially as most modern ships steer from the bridge, however, considering the age of the ship and the construction materials being mostly timber and rope I guess it makes sense that ships wheel is close to the rudder preventing long gear and drive shafts running the length of the ship. Then steering instructions would come from the poor guy 30 feet up in the bird's nest such as “Land ahoy” similar to pre electronics age when the captain would shout down a funnel to the engine room “Full steam ahead” |

What gets me Ant is not that he is situated at the stern but that he is facing the stern with his back to where he is going. Thanks David and Gordon - every project is a learning process, so I like to try various and oftentimes many approaches - not to mention trying to come up with a theme for some of these more difficult challenges. |
