Challenge 924: A coat of arms
This week’s Challenge was suggested by Michael Sinclair: design your own coat of arms, possibly based on your personal likes and accomplishments.

No starting image this week - but by way of inspiration here’s my Christmas card from 2016.

Re: Challenge 924: A coat of arms
Not personal to me (you will be relieved to know) but my take on the coat of arms for Terry Pratchetts Assassins' guild,
Apparently they left a small calling card every time anyone was inhumed as a mark of courtesy

In heraldic terms the blazon is sable six coins or flanked by two supporters.
One supporter is dexter and one sinister although being assassins they are both sinister aha ahaha

Mine too, so I fixed the distracting background.

Re: Challenge 924: A coat of arms
If a coat of arms needs explaining, then it’s probably not doing its job but for the sake of clarity here goes.
The dragon represents a terracotta roof finial I am currently making to top off the roof of a summer house I built during the summer
The camera & PS represents my love of photography and photoshop (who would have guessed)
The rental house represents the rental houses I have renovated over the last couple of years
The circular saw represents my love of woodwork and DIY
The upcycled lamp represents all the upcycling projects I have made
The steampunk glasses represent my like of the steampunk style
Psychomodo is an album title from my all-time favourite band whose gigs I still see on average 2 or 3 times per year. 10 points for the first person to name that tune.

Very nice Ant.

I see that woodworking and DIY isn’t a religious thing with you then? 🤣🤣🤣

Just playing with a second one.

Camera top left. Tiger Moth top right for my light aircraft flying. Headset and Vickers VC10 for my job. Treble Clef for my love of good music.

Re: Challenge 924: A coat of arms
First to don the coat of arms this week was Josephine Harvatt, with a gag that I suppose someone had to make. Cute. A neat homage to Terry Pratchett in the second entry, and your assassins certainly have a wide range of weaponry to choose from. I like the bloodstains.

A shiny design from GKB, featuring a couple of lions (brace? two doesn’t seem enough for a pride) but, apart from the flag of St Andrew, not a lot of personal detail here. Ah - there we go, in the second entry. Music, photography, aviation and air traffic control, all contained within a rather stylish pair of birds. Phoenixes? And I didn’t know hairdressing was one of your interests. Or perhaps those aren’t a pair of scissors sticking out of the top.

A spinning shield from lwc, depicting what appears to be an ogre wielding a scythe surmounted by archery equipment. I get the archery stuff, Loyd, but what’s going on at his feet? I can’t interpret it.

A pair of eagles and a pair of scorpions from michael sinclair, very nicely rendered in gleaming gold. The shield could perhaps do with some content. What confuses me, though, is that when you suggested this Challenge you described it as a way for participants to show their interests - are these really yours?

A truly personal heraldic device from Ant Snell, its four quadrants featuring different aspects of his interest. Personally I’d have abstracted each element a little more to make them more symbolic and less literal, but it does work. Watch the dragon’s claws, though, the red is leaking. Can’t place the song, I’m afraid.

An extraordinary construction from tooquilos, bringing the Wizard of Oz to life in great style. I like the transformation of the Tin Man into a knight, and the scary witch overseeing it all. I like the exploration in the animated version, but one suggestion: use easing with your motion, so you don’t get the sudden full stop when a movement ends.

A marine entry from Mariner, neatly contained within a swinging pub sign. I like the three-dimensionality of the anchor, and the subtle use of shadow. My only small criticism is that the two text panels appear to be viewed head on, rather than from below. Perhaps a slight extrusion needed here?

Thanks, Michael Sinclair, for the topic this week.

Thanks Steve. No, not scissors but a visual joke that didn’t work out but I left it in anyway. They are lightning flashes; flash as in ‘Flash Gordon’.

Didn’t I just say that the joke didn’t work? 😱 🙄🙄
