Re: Challenge 927: Lift me up
My entry is very shabby technically compared to the immaculate entries to date but I was worried that if worked on it any longer it would go out of date.
Anyone for a game of Snakes and Ladders?

Like yours David - thinking outside the box
Mariner - beautiful rebuild - couple of points - close inspection reveals a few seams, and the window glare is the same in the window all the way around
Gordon - hope that wasn't Steve's piano or you're in the bad books
Michael S - nice replacement of sky and foreground
Josephine- thinking outside the box
Anna -

Had no idea what to do with this especially after Anna and Gordon submitted - so decided on a Michael Sinclair type of approach - http://vimeo.com/761830806

Thanks Frank. Yes I know, but I didn't spot rhe glare problem until I was too far along to want to turn back. Seams? Well, nobody's perfect.

Re: Challenge 927: Lift me up
First to use the hoist this week was DavidMac, with Thunderbird 2 blasting off from its island hideaway. A neat use of the device - even if it is an everyday object for you.

It’s Chinese New Year for Ant Snell, with a magnificent dragon being hoisted up. The strings from the head and body work well, and it neatly obscures most of the scaffolding behind. The dragon on the pavement is a great addition, and fits really well into the perspective. I like the sky lanterns.

A dinosaur skeleton from tooquilos, on its own newly-made base. All through the excellent animated version I was thinking, how on earth is she going to get something that size through the window? And now I know. A brilliant ending, and I like how the presenter immediately switches the other way.

Installation in progress from lwc, all captured on camera. I was really entertained by the fact that the extending hoist is seen in the background and on the optical viewfinder as well.

When I asked Mariner to remove the scaffolding, I had no idea if it was possible. But this is an outstanding job, even by your high standards. It looks to me as if you’ve cleaned up the section nearest the camera, then replicated that down the street and round the curve. Absolutely astonishing. It feels almost churlish to point out a tiny error, and it’s to do with the placement of the doors. It seems likely that the architect would have designed the building so that each window looks out between a pair of columns, rather than onto the back of the column. So your wooden door is too far to the right: the window to its left is where the steps actually lead to.

A hoisted piano from GKB, lifted by people who are possibly missing the point of the platform. But I really enjoyed the movement in the animated version. The wobble is spot on, and the sound on the finale is perfect.

An interesting conversion from michael sinclair, who has removed the pavement and road and inserted a body of water. No mere swimming pool, though - this is foaming, bubbling water depicting a strong current. An interesting concept, neatly executed, except for the scale of the water being out of keeping with its environment. Oh, and Mariner: I believe Michael’s original is not a clean-up of the tasked image, but another one from the same angle.

Well, a week certainly is a long time in politics! When Josephine Harvatt posted her excellent piece of political satire, Liz Truss was indeed still Prime Minister. Now she too has tumbled down the slippery snake. And there’s the second entry, with Suella Braverman added at the foot of the snake, and Grant Shapps on the first rung of the ladder - but again, this is before Truss’s resignation! Aha! The third entry brings it up to date. It’s not often a political cartoonist gets the opportunity to update their work with this regularity! Apologies to those from outside the UK, who won’t have the faintest idea what’s going on in any of these.

A glorious animation from Frank, with Trump gesticulating at the window, his trademark red tie making it clear who it is. A great bomb, and a fine explosion. I particularly like the riff on Obama’s Hope poster. Splendid, Frank.

Thanks, Steve. I am very happy with your critique. I know my reconstruction is anything but perfect. It is rather difficult to guess accurately how an object will look if rotated to any great decgree, but your logic is impeccable - one does not put windows or doors behind pillars. It there is a next time I will remember that.

Thanks Steve. When I thought of the concept I was delighted to find the sound effects so easily.

Great work from everyone. Loved Josephine’s various takes on our deplorable political situation as it rapidly evolved.
