Re: Challenge 1028: Roebuck to Roaring Meg
First to venture into this week’s Challenge was michael sinclair, with a cute political statement – very quick, Michael, and nicely done. Incidentally you might want to check out the Johnston Underground font, designed in 1913 and used for all this sort of signage – you can download a free version of it here. (Historical note: Johnston Sans was the first “everyday” sans font, predating Helvetica by half a century. Eric Gill was a student of Edward Johnston.) An interesting couple of Trumps, one apparently dressed as a Bolivian tank commander and the other as a Roman emperor. The road sign switch works well, as does the frown/smile – subtle, that one.

I enjoyed DavidMac's newspaper front page, with its Meg and roebuck image. Setting it in Richmond, with its deer park, was a good idea. Justify that body text to make it look like a real newspaper, though! I like the chasing buck in the follow-up image.

I didn’t know there was a Roaring Meg river in New Zealand! Thanks, Vibeke!

Of course, it makes perfect sense for Roaring Meg to be an artillery weapon, and Ben Boardman is bang on target with this image. If I were the operator, though, I might move a few paces out of the way. A fine explosion in the animated version.

I like how lwc has moved the action into the town of Roebuck itself, and the way the flashing police lights draw the eye. Nicely subtle scaling here too. I like the cannon, although I do wonder at that remarkably short barrel. Wouldn’t want to be near it when it went off. I literally laughed out loud at parts one, two and especially three of the trilogy – glorious! Love the battered road signs! And you should never let a good moose go to waste.

An ingenious take on the road sign from Ant Snell, with a tortuous reverse engineering to produce Meghan outside Buckingham Palace… that was a real leap of imagination! Who is the American policeman? The ChatGPT image is cute, but I wouldn’t have recognised her.

It’s those royals again, from tooquilos – Roaring Megsy indeed. I like the laughing Liz and Chuck. The Prisoner video is nicely animated, although I’m not convinced by the fitting of her face onto that prison body.

A fine Meghan from Mariner, with an immaculate drum kit. Roaring indeed! And - “smeghead”? I didn’t have you down as a Red Dwarf fan!

Thanks Steve. I changed your title from "roaring" to "moaning", haha.

Oh yes! I loved Red Dwarf! How else would I have come upon "smeghead"?

Thanks Steve. Couldn't really get my heart into this one for some reason.
