Re: Challenge 1034: My new cat
I was intending to abandon my planned end image because Ben beat me to the luxury cat house idea so splendidly that I would have ended up simply making a pale copy. But ........
So, just for you Loyd, here's an alternative approach. Steve and Carol prepare for bed. Part VIII: An acceptable compromise. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1034: My new cat
First to deal with the feline problem this week was lwc, with a straightforward but workable cage solution. I like the blink and waggling ears. Replacing her with a photograph might well end up being the solution! Although knowing her, it would just fall off the wall. The studio shot is a really ingenious adaptation – very nice work! I think Evie might object in GKB's flatmate solution – these cats can be terribly territorial. Are her eyes really that colour? Or has – ahem – Photoshop been involved? A rare animation from Ant Snell, with an ingenious head-mounted toy. I like the flashing eyes and reverse-view arm. To echo DavidMac – is that really a thing? Only if so I think the RSPCA should be informed. The various wall exercise contraptions look like a lot of fun for the cat – and, again, do these things really exist? The plastic box is optimistic. Every time I’ve tried to put a cat in one of those things they turn into balls of fur with claws on the outside. The “prepare for bed” image from DavidMac is a fabulous piece of work, and I can truly appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into it. Plenty of good detail, from the cat’s shadow on the wall top a very recognisable Carol peeking out from under her pillow. The only thing I’d have changed would be to move Mimi’s eyes to look at us. I also enjoyed the window box references. I’m not sure the barbed wire in Part II would be all that effective, seeing as Mimi is already the on our side of it – but good use of the tops of our heads! Negotiations certainly have broken down in Part III, with the side of the stockade just visible to suggest Mimi is on the other side of it. I like the periscope. A belligerent expression from the cat in Part IV – surrender, indeed. And the cat wins in Part V. I think Part VI is my favourite, with the neatly poised cage and the sandbags. I really like how you’ve used the same bedroom in all of these images – a lot of work here! What a great story has been told. And does Part VII mean that we’ve won? If only… and a great delivery in Part VIII! You really have been busy this week. Much as I approve of Frank's cat shock collar, I think Carol might object on humanitarian grounds. I like the cat’s expression, though, and who you’ve managed to make look startled without being injured. Nice one. It’s the great outdoors from tooquilos, with Carol and me looking surprisingly chipper despite having been ousted. Still, as the animated version shows, at least Mimi is comfortable. Nicely subtle animation here, and it’s surprising how much realism the dog adds. It looks like Ben Boardman’s cat box has lockable glass doors – now there’s an idea! A brilliant solution, and I do like the added touch of the phone. (Incidentally, Mimi does greatly enjoy watching mouse videos on my iPad: ![]() No sign of Mimi from michael sinclair, and it’;s hardly surprising given the choice of “playmate”. I really like the framing here, with the image taking up just a small part of the space. And great breathing action. Excellent work this week. Thank you all! |

Funny how some challenges don't attract at first and then take off. I never expected at the outset to have so much fun with this! Sorry to have given you so much to plough through. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1034: My new cat
Thanks Steve Didn’t have much time for this one. As a matter of interest the colour of Evie’s eyes is that way because of the flash reflecting on her retinae. It shows green for reasons that I forget rather than red from human eyes. I chose to leave it that way because I didn’t have time to change it. Well done everyone with your ideas of how to get a cat to behave. _________________ Why is it that all the contestants in the ‘Miss Universe’ contest are all from Earth? |
