Challenge 265: Performance space
There are four plinths in London's Trafalgar Square, one in each corner. Three hold statues of famous people; the fourth has been empty since the time it was put up. Currently, the plinth is occupied by members of the public: following a ballot, they get an hour each to climb up there and do whatever they like.

When I went past yesterday evening, however, the occupant was a woman in her pyjamas drinking a coffee from Starbucks while talking on her phone.

Surely we can devise a better entertainment than this?

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space
I read in the London Lite this week that a man decided to stand up there with nothing on. This caused offence to a number of people, but apparently such action does not contravene british law - amazing!

We are comparitively relaxed about nudity compared to the USA. I am told that on a recent showing of "Torchwood" accross the pond they had to blur Jack's bottom

One day it should look like this:-

Air Chief Marshall Sir Keith Park.

"If ever any one man won the Battle of Britain, he did. I don’t believe it is recognised how much this one man, with his leadership, his calm judgement and his skill, did to save not only this country, but the world."
Marshal of the RAF, Lord Tedder.

I am a firm believer in that old saying: "EVERY PLINTH NEEDS A HORSE !"

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space
Great entries, very impressed love them all, so cannot comment on each.
我也改进我的汉语. Never really thought where the hands on clock came from....., but BTW ~51 degrees in London, but not the celestial plane. 在伦敦从未真正地认为在时钟的手来自.....的地方,但是BTW ~51度,但是不是神圣飞机, plus the 90/270 degrees of course depending where you look from

..but also Becky you've woken me there .... .... how far can you go in "space"(?) !!!And Gilmour.. Nick
Anna's always make me happy...... and impressed with her skills......

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space

You can click on it for a slightly larger version if you care to. Hey Steve...something you have informed me of several times is that I have a problem with angles/perspective...I agree. The LED read out "pedophile fry-day" is off a bit but that's the best I could get it.
When I'm drawing with pencil/pen and paper my angles are perfect (thanks to rulers) but in Photoshop I seem to have a problem.
Any advice from you or any posters on how to make my angles and vanishing points more accurate?
Thanks in advance.

Great entries all around but I really like the David Gilmour one!

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space
Thanks Les, your comments are appreciated. Since posting the image I have revisited the file and have tweaked the lighting, so may post an updated version later.

Regarding the text, the clue to VP is normally in the image and this picture presents us with the perfect guide.

Select the pen tool and click on the upper most corner where the two faces of the plinth meet. Make sure you have plenty of grey background around the canvas. Click again to the right to draw the path. Hold CTRL to activate the path selection tool temporarily and select the right hand point and drag it so that the path line lies on the top edge of the plinth. You will see that I have then stroked the path with the brush in red (on a new layer).

Repeat the process above, but this time select the left hand point and drag it down so that the path now lies along another horizontal line. This effectively proves that your first point was correct. The moved path has also been stroked with a red brush.

In the illustration I have assumed that you would like text somewhere between the two red lines. I changed the brush colour to yellow and moved the left hand path point to the upper and then lower parameters of the imaginary text area. The path was then stroked in yellow following each move, using a thinner brush.

I would always suggest that you make up any artwork flat, i.e. head on view and then distort. The yellow lines and the vertical cracks between the stones will then be your guide.

I hope this helps

Nick

Hope you don't mind, but I've reworked the lighting. Oh and by the way, which one's Pink?

Re: Challenge 265: Performance space
Nick...thanks for the info. I never thought about making the canvas bigger to find the vanishing point...good idea! I've never used the Pen Tool before (I've been kind of afraid of it ) but this is a good excuse for me to start messing with it.
Also thanks very much for putting the example together for me see...the visual helped a ton.
