Challenge 274: Building bricks
This week I came across the work of Nathan Sawaya, a former banker who gave up his job to concentrate on making stunning sculptures out of Lego.

Playing with the real bricks is fun, of course, but can we make our own improbable Lego constructions in Photoshop? I've provided a set of basic bricks for you to work with - they're here as a PNG file with no background, but for those of you who have trouble with this file format there's another set here in JPEG format.

Probably best to work in isometric projection for this one, as true perspective will make this job almost impossible!

Alors là, Steve, on pourrait presque appeler ça du sadisme!
Qu'est ce que je vais faire avec des légos, moi, j'y jouais même pas quand j'étais petite!
^^

Bon, mon cerveau commence déjà à bouillir!

On verra bien vendredi!

Bonne semaine!

Isometric projection is the perspective method whereby the Y axis is straight up, and the X and Z axes go off at 30 degree angles. If you start to build images using these blocks, you'll see you get a kind of fake perspective where things don't get smaller as they recede into the background.

It's a system used for technical drawing, and it's also the system Lego use in their instruction guides!

Mayan/Aztec temple

-Only something very simple/minimal just to warm up. Might help. No shadows cast.
-Isometric and transposition from orthogonal views reminds me of (engineering) Technical Drawing GCSE/O-Levels and associated methods, and other maths/physics/computer(SW) transformations later! But art is always here .... &compatible

Thanks Sophie and Anna. Bit simple on my part, but hope can do more later. Another great enjoyed solution Anna! (Effective cropping). 刘仲伟, 我的看法:非常好的图象和恰当回答挑战摘要 我也认为中国地标解答

Sorry to be so thick but, does one need to cut out each individual brick you have supplied, before I can work with them?

Mark, I got rid of the white background with the magic wand. The bricks image became my toybox. I lassoed around whichever brick I happened to require, made a new layer and dragged it into my picture. The key to this one was liberal use of ctrl-[ or ctrl-] to send the layer forward or backward. Here's what I came up with:
