Friday Challenge: the big one
Just under a week to go until the 250th Friday Challenge, and I'm stumped for a big enough idea. We've had contests with winners in the past, but I haven't really enjoyed the process of picking one and it seems rather against the spirit of the forum.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on how we can celebrate next week's milestone?

250th Challenge - it doesn't seem the 100th was that long ago.
I was looking at the images of galaxies colliding taken by the Hubble telescope - sorry no link. Maybe create a galaxy or planet from scratch?

Hi Steve
My view is that all of us who take part in the challenges are on a learning curve and are all at different stages of development. To add a contest element rather places those who's day jobs do not involve PS at a disadvantage to people who are artists / designers and do that for a living. There is a danger that people could become demoralised and I hope most on here would agree that the current spirit of the forum, where we receive your comments, is entirely sufficient and pitched correctly. Perhaps worth mentioning that the current challenges are described at 'contest xxx', when perhaps this should be changed to 'challenge xxx' - your call though.

There are a million possibilities for a subject. How about taking something / someone, which is 250 years old and bring them / it into the present day?

Nick

Wasn't the 100th just a few weeks ago. Will put my thinking cap on. We don't need prizes, just getting your comments every week, is reward enough.

What about making something out of the characters "250th" in a similar way to the TV program How We Built Britain". They made buildings in the shape if the letters.

Or maybe combine as many previous challenges as you can into one and see how many Steve can spot

"Build me a challenge" ...if that makes any sense... Somehow, turn the tables onto you..?

How about we set the (fiendishly difficult) challenge and Steve has to do it?

Actually... no. Bad idea. We'd all be too depressed at his show of genius to bother clicking the mouse ever again. Scratch that idea.

Haha, your right. Probably not the best idea.

Another thought,
Remember in grade school that game kids play where you start at one corner and whisper a secret in the person's ear behind you - and go all around the room to see how much that secret has changed in the end?

Each person could add something from a previous challenge - and build a montage...

Although the canvas will be larger than normal, but the challenge could start with a tree (to give scale)..

Lots of good ideas here. I like the last one, with everyone adding something to a montage... but how could this be administered? What order would everyone go in? I can't see how to make it work in practice.

Still thinking about this one...

Montage, would it work if as soon as somebody decides to add something, they add their name and time stamp to the last image. They are then allowed a set number of hours to add to that image. Or somebody else can use that one.
I hope you understand what I mean.

Vibeke,

Yes, that's an interesting approach. Might be tricky to set up, but I certainly think it has potential. I'll give it some thought!

Re: Friday Challenge: the big one
Hi Steve,

I can across a question on how to reflect this image on another site. Because of the angle, there is a little more work needed than to just copy and flip the image. I also noticed that even some of the more talented people didn't have an answer for this one. Although you have explained how to do this, I think that the image provides a new take on the problem. I thought it might make a good technical challenge.

Dave,

Yes, a very interesting one. You're assuming the letter is standing flat on its base on a reflective surface? Tricky to do. I think it's time for a more technical challenge!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Totally agree Nick Very well said Nick!!

I'm getting a bit worried, as we improve we may discourage others to join and contribute, or continue too.

We all have differnt lives and times we can contribute, learn, as we go through phases and life.

Again, I mostly (95%) just enjoy others' contributions. I see the work they do and creativity. Level I do not measure.
Some of us will give some support to others. You do Nick.

Oh well we are all here together now!! ) And yes thanks to Steve.

Re: Friday Challenge: the big one
Steve,
how about making a long lasting roll of images where everyone can link to one and another to express their feelings about HTCIP. I saw
a photoshop worm on this page:

http://forum.advancedphotoshop.nl/showthread.php?t=1732

or this final one

http://www.worm.bluesfear.com/index2.html

Maybe that's something to produce.

Just a idea!
