No Quicktime movie for CS5 Cutting hair with Refine Edge
I was so excited to see that a demonstration movie was supposed to be available on the DVD for separating hair from a difficult background using Refine Edge, as I struggle with this problem all the time (I do horse manip's). Every other resource I've obtained showed only separating hair from a solid contrasting background, a task that rarely occurs. The movie icon appears on Page 201, but I searched through all the movie files on the DVD and did not find it.

I also think it would be really helpful if the titles of your Quicktime files contained either the Chapter Number, the Page Numbers, or the Exact Lesson Titles rather than our having to guess how the files are named. For instance, the movie for "Find and replace" on Pages 30 and 31 is named "Replace Color." And the movie for "Blending 1: fire power" is named "Blending Options." I finally gave up looking for "Cutting Hair" or "Refine Edge" and just starting searching every movie's icon for something that resembled the model on a dark background. Since I didn't find anything that matched, I finally just gave up.

Anyway, I guess I'm just posting this to say that I'm really disappointed because I could have benefited from the missing movie.

You're absolutely right - there is no movie for the second Refine Edge tutorial, and there should have been. My mistake, and you're the first to point it out. I'll record a movie of this one, upload it to the forum and post a link to it.

And you're also right about the naming convention for the movie files, or rather, the lack of one. When there were only a few movies this wasn't an issue, but now that there are so many I can see that navigation them must be tricky. I used to give page numbers for each movie, but took them off when I thought they were probably more confusing than helpful - perhaps it's time they were reinstated.

Thanks for your valuable observations.

Steve

MLee you mentioned you do horse maips, it reminded me of this CS5 video I saw. There are some good tips about cutting a horse out of a background. I also learnt (for the first time) about the Healing brush tool, which is basically magic in my opinion!
