Just got my New book 2nd edition
Well I just got my book and to be honest I was upset to see that it has many of the same things as the first book. I blame myself for not researching the 2nd edition prior to buying it. After buying Steve's first book I became such a fan I ordered the 2nd edition the minute it was available without knowing what was in it.

There are a few new things that I can learn but I don't have CS and not really interested in the stock Photos.

This is by all means not a complaint on Steve, he does great work but next time I will make sure that the contents are new before buying another of his books...

I was so excited to get the book and now I am so bummed out

A lot is the same, but there is also a lot new. I found the new examples really enjoyable.

I felt it was good value, and look forward to the 3rd Ed.

Re: Just got my New book 2nd edition
Ron,

As I explained, it is a second edition rather than a wholly new book - and that's why it has the same title. It's customary for books on computer software to be revised each time a new version of the software appears.

I understand your point exactly, but you must recognise that the second edition of a book is not the same as a different book! It's rather like upgrading to a new version of Photoshop and complaining that you already have most of the tools and filters.

I hope you manage to get something out of it anyway. There is an additional 64 pages of new techniques, after all. And to my mind, if you manage to finally crack Curves, QuickMask and Unsharp Masking then that's worth the price in itself.

All the best

Steve

Steve,

I guess I never came to this forum before buying your 2nd edition so I never knew what it would be. I only knew a second book was coming out from you and because I enjoyed the first one I was going to buy it.

I understand now, like I said I don't blame you for my disappointment I blame me because I should have checked it out first.

You are right there are some different things but in my opinion had I known ahead I would have waited for a completely new book.

Please don't take this as a negitive thing, I was just making a point.

Fair enough! You're still welcome here, whatever you think of the new edition.

Re: Just got my New book 2nd edition
I just got the 2nd ed, but I didn't have the first so no problem there ;-).

What I would like to note that there are plenty of books for photoshop that focus on one version (i.e. photoshop CS for photographers), while the difference between book x for CS and book x for PS7 is not that great either. At least this book is somewhat more clear on that. I would never buy a new edition of a certain book without checking if there is enough difference to warrant the cost, and I've also gotten careful with the above book x example.

On a side note, I noticed when looking for this book on amazon.com, when using "how to cheat in photoshop", it shows the first edition first, and the second edition I did not see. One reviewer does warn about this since he got the 1st edition that way after the 2nd was already released, and had to return it. Steve, maybe you should write to amazon and get them to change the way this is listed. It seems very odd to me a book with the same title but the older edition is shown first.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. I've tried that, of course. Amazon have never replied to any of my emails, and my publishers can't get anywhere with them either.

I don't think they're interested in authors' complaints!

Well, that at least is interesting to know. Very strange given that amazon is trying to use data mining to the very limits to give you the best suggestions to get you to buy more. Don't think this particular instance adds to customer satisfaction!
