Tip of the day...
Never make a drastic change to your PC's hardware if you don't have a Windows XP CD to hand*.

This is a public service announcement.

Re: Tip of the day...
Ah, but why did that crash Windows? Unless it was a Bios conflict.

Re: Tip of the day...
It's not a BIOS conflict, ERD loads perfectly, it's most likely it couldn't cope with such a drastic change, It can happen with something as simple as changing the video card and I've gone from P3 to P4, completely different subsystem but without the Windows CD, I can't run a repair on the registry/HAL.

All will be revealed later when I can get hold of the CD. The system could probably do with a bit of a fresh start.

You two are talking gobbledegook. A BIOS conflict, but the ERD loads perfectly? Isn't that a quote from 2001?

Should have bought a Mac...

Hehe. BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), your MAC will have one, it's just it doesn't shout about it like PCs do. ERD is a program which is, to all intents and purposes, a standalone version of XP, which runs from CD, it's used as a recovery tool.

I would buy a Mac but I've run out of stockings

Lost me around the "Never....." quote.

My other half is an IT nerd, and he is always TRYING to talk to me in this bizarre, foreign language, and all it means to me is BLAH BLAH BLAH.... with exra BLAH!
I used to be a geek... way back in time when BASIC was the common language for my ZX Spectrum... I loved that machine

Mac's crash too, Wendy, only when they crash you need to send the entire computer back to have the problem fixed. Although the Operating System of Windows is clumsy with bad architecture you can at least fix 90% of the problem at home if you have the know how. But yes I too wish I had a Mac.
