Graphics Tablets
Hi All

Steve advocates using a Graphics Tablet (Wacom, I think he mentioned) so I was wondering if any (or all) of you experienced photoshoppers could recommend any one in particular for a newbie like myself (just to save me hours of research!).

Many thanks in advance,
Mick

Re: Graphics Tablets
Wacom are the only serious manufacturer of tablets, so there's really no other alternative.

I'd recommend the Bamboo Fun, which is their cheapest tablet. I use the smallest size, and find it fine even for a 23 inch monitor: but take a look and see if you want to go for a larger one.

Be warned, though, you'll hate it at first. Persevere, it's worth it.

Re: Graphics Tablets
Mick,

I have Wacom tablet. Mine just A6 Intuos 2. Old now, but works fine and its travelled under very harsh conditions in rucksack next to PC. Still works. Contrary my initial thoughts and as others have said, not necessary to get one to large, especially if want to get into your travel bag.

I think Steve has A5.....

I'm sure others can give more detailed response. But I've never had any problems with it and resolution, dynamics great with all the tilt, pressure controls etc. I'm sure I don't use all the options integrated into PS brushes controls.

I do lots of stuff with mouse and layers, but once start "painting" it comes out, 50% important for creativity and speed then.

There were a few discussions in the past, but good you reawaken for the sake of hindsight and experience.

Finally, I recommend you get one if can. Maybe if price an issue for anyone, try eBay.

Good luck,
Trevor

Re: Graphics Tablets
I use an A5 size Wacom Intuos 3. I find this a perfect size to operate. The only comment I would make is that, from a personal point of view, I would definitely not go for anything larger as your arm will be flying all over the place!

As Steve says, you will probably hate it at first. You might even be tempted to not use it but persevere and you will find that it is a very handy piece of gear.

Re: Graphics Tablets
Glad to see this discussion. I have an A5 Intuos 3 like Gordon. It's so much easier, quicker and more accurate when masking, cloning etc. and mine too has received some harsh treatment but survivied with no ill effects. But my model takes up quite a bit of space in front of my keyboard and I could do with a smaller one.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the Intuos 4? I've heard it has a greater response to tilt/angle and pressure.

Re: Graphics Tablets
I have an Intuos 3, work area 4.5" x 6.5". I love it, works great with my 26" screen and across the the other screen. Haven't even got a mouse plugged in anymore.
Use a Bamboo with my laptop when I travel.

Re: Graphics Tablets
Thank you all for your help - Wacom it is then! (You don't all have shares in Wacom do you?)

I'll bear in mind that it may take some getting used to as did the touch pad on my first laptop. But, perseverance is my middle name so I think I'll manage to stick at it .

Thanks again and bye for now

If you have small kids at home I would recommend to have Trust from Tesco.
