CS5 Extended
Well. Got my new computer (dude, it's a Dell) - and am trying to figure out all it's different bells and whistles. AND!!!!! I've ALSO got my very own CS5 - just today! And you know what? I don't know where to start with it --- haven't a clue. Do I go back to 100% PS and try the things I couldn't accomplish with PS 7 - start with Art & Design, or jump right into How to Cheat w/CS5? Help..................Joey |

Re: CS5 Extended
Joey, IMHO 95% of things you work with in PS-7 will work fine in CS5. Some of the interface names/look different, none of the basics. You have many more additional "tools" to use now. Quite a few of these save so much time if you are in a rush and, most important e.g. can change none destructively, e.g. using Smart Object, where many filters can be adjusted after. If you go to PS "help" it is quite helpful. There also quite a few free videos from Adobe and associates for CS5/CS4 that have been posted to promote the new features with examples. (Some are not very helpful for me). I do recommend Steve's books, not least but very quick reference. I'll leave Steve to comment but on your books as you and others have proven for 100% and Art & Design they are neutral. I do recommend How To Cheat in Photoshop, works very well. Each chapter gives the versions or extended versions required. Generously, on the DVD he includes PDF and QuickTime chapters from earlier versions. Oh, BTW, some of us HTCIPS guys donated highres images you are welcome to use too. Even also have some of our HTCIPS Friday Challenge solutions on the pages. I would recommend How to Cheat w/CS5. It has many manifest parts we need to know, and especially from PS7 through to CS5. Steve gets quite excited with some of the new CS4/CS5 features , and teaches how to work around some of the quirks/aberrations. His features make it clear if in addition need e.g. CS, CS2, C4 +/- Extended.
I'm new to the extended part, but does some very interesting things, providing have a lot of memory on PC. Yes I have a new Dell recently too. With CS5 had to buy a new one! The little laptop struggles on though. I'll be away soon, but I and others sure can help, but maybe with Macs not so sympathetic
