A tiny Photoshop trivia
After over fifteen years of using Photoshop I just today discovered that, in the layers palette, dragging the lock symbol from the background into the trash at the bottom of the palette will convert it to a layer! But of course you all knew that already didn't you ....... ![]() And if you didn't ........ think how much richer your life is now you do ........ ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

You don't even need to go to the effort of dragging it to the crash - just click on it. |

Clicking the lock doesn't work here. Double clicking it, or indeed double clicking anywhere on the background in the palette does it - that's the technique I've always used. But the lock drag was completely new to me. I was intrigued because it seems so unnecessary when simply double clicking the background, which I suspect is what we all do, is enough. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

And if you ALT+double click, you can bypass the New Layer dialog box (defaulting to name 'layer 0')! _________________ Lonnie |

Single click on the lock removes it in CC 2014 ... with earlier versions it needed a double click. _________________ "Why so serious?" The Dark Knight |

Why do they keep moving the goalposts on established basics that are second nature to everyone? I'd really prefer to not re-learn changed basics as well as learn new stuff ........ ....... doubtless far greater intellects than I are in force here .... ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
