Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Is there a way to convert a paint shop pro brush to a CS3 brush? Paint shop pro has a .pspbrush extension. I know you can use Photoshop brushes in paint shop pro, but can't seem to use paint shop pro brushes in CS3. Thanks! |

I don't know any way of doing this - but then PSP doesn't run on a Mac anyway. Any PC users out there who might know? |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Thanks Steve, now I have another problem and not sure if I have a bad install or not. When I use the "Paste into" in CS3, it does not paste into. It pastes the image into the layer but does not fit it to the layer. It pastes it just as it looks? In other words, I was trying to paste a sky into another sky and instead of filling the selection it just pasted it as a square picture and the sides are the original picture. As though I pasted it as a new layer. |

Paste Into requires a selection to be active first. It then paste the layer as normal, but creates a layer mask that matches the selection. Does this help? |

Not really, I am confused. If I have selected something then doesn't that make it active? I read something about "object selection" However in CS3 I cannot find object selection anywhere. |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Sorry - I meant a selection as in the kind made by the Lasso, Magic Wand, Marquee, Select Color and so on. Let's say you want to replace a sky in a photograph. Select the original one with the Magic Wand, then go to your new sky, Select All and then Copy. When you now return to the one with the Magic Wand selection, choosing Paste Into will paste the new sky into the document (but won't resize it), and will add a layer mask to match the selection you'd made. |

From the screenshot it appears your problem is because the new sky image is much smaller than its destination. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Thanks, but shouldn't it still paste into it? It pastes into it in paint shop pro, might look distorted but works. This is the link to the tut I did, and this is the picture they used, and provided for download and it worked for them. http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/masking-and-montage/photoshop-masks.html |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
It has worked as a mask has been created so it's appearing behind the buildings. Seems odd that it would be scaled down like that. _________________ Leap and the net will appear |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
David do you think I have a bad program? It is just not working at all. I don't know CS3 at all, used PSP for 2 years and they are quite different. |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Okay, here they are the same size. I paste it into and as you can see it does not work correctly. It is pasting it into the selection as a new layer (so to speak) it is like a layer behind the buildings, so the bottom half (yellow part of sky) is behind the buildings. ![]() |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
I doubt if it's Photoshop at fault; its operation is different to PSP (I used to use it as well) so perhaps PSP stretches the image to fit? _________________ Leap and the net will appear |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
My husband keeps saying it is "the operator" not the program.
Well something is not right, it should be pasting the same image into the selection and it is pasting it behind it. I am hoping it is something as simple as a setting. I just got this program yesterday so am totally green to it. Hoping I have a setting wrong. I tried to contact adobe's tech support and cust. service and both numbers are no good. How can you have all these products and not have good numbers on your website???

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
It is doing the right thing, Julie! The layer and its mask are not linked: you can move or distort the pasted layer, and it will move around within the masked area. So in your last example, the sky's all there; you just need to move it up to where you want it. |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Thanks Steve, I tried to move it up and it does not move all the way up. Maybe I am misunderstanding their interpretation of "paste into" doesn't it paste it into the selection? In other words the square picture (original) of the sky should be pasted into the selection so if you cut it out it would be in the shape of the selection. What is the point of "paste into" if you have to have a picture the same size? I know you don't use psp, but in that program (which is way below photoshop) you can paste into selection and if the pic is smaller or larger it will adjust it to fit the selection. |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
Paste Into uses the defined selection to create a mask. When you paste the clipboard image into the document it creates a new layer with the mask around it. This means you are free to move the layer around, resize it, etc. and it will always stay within the confines of that area. It's not really behind the original image at all, in document terms it's actually in front. To see this, hold the shift key whilst clicking the new layer's mask thumbnail to temporarily disable it. _________________ If you hold on to the past, sooner or later you'll lose your grip. |

Re: Converting Paint shop pro brushes to CS3
LOL, well it certainly does not work like psp I really have a lot to learn. However, in you telling me how to hide the mask layer (thanks didn't know about that) I was able to then move the picture all the way up so the bottom of the sun showed. I was unable to move it up all the way prior to hiding the mask layer. Is there not an option to paste into the layer where it actually pastes it into the actual shape of the layer? You guys are great, and I really appreciate all of your help. I am new to photoshop, so please be patient with me. I should have learned on this first. You'll be glad to know I am taking a course next month at the local college on CS3 so hopefully I will be able to get my feet wet. Hugs, Julie |
