Mesh Tool
I picked up a new client who would like me to design some displays for a tradeshow. They have an existing logo, but only in low-res jpeg.

I would like to convert it all to vector format, but there are some effects that cannot be accomplished using only vectors in illustrator; such as some outer-glow on objects and shadows. (the Illustrator effects for glow/shadow doesn't seem to scale proportionately to the object when I increase the size of that object. The effect gets smaller as the object gets larger.)

I was thinking that a good solution would be using the Mesh Tool on a background layer in Illustrator to simulate these effects, and the Pen Tool/Shape Tools for everything else.

I have little experience with the mesh tool. I would like to know if the tool has the ability to scale infinitely and more importantly remain proportionate to the surrounding wireframe. ie, when I increase the size of the artwork for a poster, will the overall look of the logo remain the same?

Also, is there a different tool/technique you would suggest?

Thanks in advance,
