lock and load
In following the video on Lock and Load having problems getting my results to match video. In video Jack and Queen are selected as shown by selecting quick mask and seeing the red mask. When the brush is applied, the shadow appears on J & Q cards and not on 5.

When I have it set up that way the shadow appears on 5 card only. If I inverse selection so 5 is selected ( that and background red masked) then shadow appears on J & Q as in video. Why is my results the opposite as the video? Have brush set on normal. The results are the same, but like to know what I have set wrong.

THanks

Re: lock and load
Have you subtracted the 5 card's area from the selection by holding ctrl+alt then clicking its thumbnail? That's the only reason I can think it's not working.

Re: lock and load
Hi Cy,

I think you are nearly there when you talk about inversing the selection.

If you double click on the quickmask icon it gives you the option of the red coloured area being the selected area or the masked area.
To make photoshop behave the same as the tutorial you need to ensure that the colour is for the selected areas not the masked ones.

By changing the quickmask preference you will in fact be reversing what gets selected when you come out of quickmask.

Re: lock and load
yes, it shows the same marching ants, just that I have to have the mask inverted to get the same results.

Yes, did not know there was an option to select which option was selected, When I changed to selected area now it works like video.

Thanks

Re: lock and load
Cy,

You'll find me a bugger... but Steve explains that he inverses his colors from red to selected as a preference (page 8, right at the beginning of 4th edition).
