Layer masks 4
In V4 on page 66 I just can't seem to get it to work. Another simple error on my part I am sure. I create the layer mask of hand and it looks like step ! (hand white & background black) is this right? It says to inverse selection and fill with black, but once the mask is made the inverse option in Selection is grayed out. Was I supposed to invert selection before making mask? I have the mask selected and hold down Alt/Ctrl/D but nothing happens. How do I get the feather option box to appear? |

OK, I played around with it quite a bit, and have it working to select inverse and feather. But at what point do you see the result. I set feather to 25 just to see effect, the selected area (marching ants) changed but the fist outline did not. How do you apply result of feather? |

Ok, I finally got it. I am really struggling with these examples. I guess Steve is writing to an audience more knowledgeable in PhotoShop than I am. Many steps are left out or taken for granted that you know how to fill the in the blanks. Will probably have more stupid questions later. |

Cy, Thanks for your questions - sorry I didn't get to them in time to reply, but you seem to have sorted it out. Photoshop is a tricky program to get used to, and as you say, the book was written with more experienced users in mind. Having said that, we're more than happy to help you to become one of those experienced users! Do keep asking questions, do take part, and we'll build your skills up together. |
