Question from Original "How to cheat in PS"
Multiple shadowed objects Chapter (pg 99) I am trying the technique for creating multiple shadowed objects, . Step 3 states""Now hold and nudge the card up a couple of pixels (did that) then inverse the selection and darken up the edge you've just created". How does one "darken up" the selection? Thanks for any help. it is much appreciated. |

Re: Question from Original "How to cheat in PS"
Hi Hawk im no expert ( far from it) but personally from my few weeks learning i would either use the burn tool set to either shadows or midtones, or simply using a normal brush just brush the edge up with a dark grey colour.
i may be wrong on that of course

Johnny's absolutely right, you can use the burn tool - set to highlights, though, not shadows or midtones as the edges are white to begin with - or a low-opacity black brush will do the same job. _________________ If you hold on to the past, sooner or later you'll lose your grip. |

For this selection method, I suspect that what Steve wants you to do here is use and adjustment. Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and move the lightness slider to the left. This will darken the edge of the card. You could also select Brightnes/Contrast, Levels, or Curves here just as well. |

Using an adjustment also works but can be too uniform. If you watch the video, Steve does use the burn tool to do this as it allows more control over the shading. _________________ Leap and the net will appear |

Re: Question from Original "How to cheat in PS"
David, I agree, but the reason I recommended that particular method is because it was in line with the techniques that Steve had covered so far in the book. It's always good to build on a students current abilities. |

Yup, that makes sense. _________________ If you hold on to the past, sooner or later you'll lose your grip. |
