mac novice confused by symbols in the book
ok, i feel pathetic admitting this, but i'm confused regarding the shortcut symbols in the book for mac. i'm just on the "natural selection" section about changing font shapes, and i can't for the life of me figure out #9. is that "shift" and "left arrow" or...? I've been trying just about everything, but I can't get the foreground color to fill in my marching ant shape. help! thanks.

I am also a novice, but getting the hang of the book. Could not find what you are referring to. What version and page are you on?

On the PC the shortcut to fill with foreground colour is alt-backspace (hold alt down and press the arrow key [top right of the main keyboard]), on the mac hold down that peculiar option key and press delete.

Rufus is correct, the long arrow symbol is the backspace key next to +/=.

Re: mac novice confused by symbols in the book
This is because Mac users have always called that thing a Delete key, whereas PC users seem to think the Delete key only deletes forward, and that one's called the Backspace key.

So to avoid confusion (ha!) I used the long left-pointing arrow, which should appear on everyone's keyboard. As a Mac user, adena, you'd call this the Delete key.

And please, don't feel "pathetic" - that's what the forum is here for!
