Path to Selection
I completed a pen path around a door, and then selected Load Path as Selection (3rd button on bottom). I had the marching ants so I did a Ctrl C and Ctrl V to copy and paste in new window to save it. All I got was the line outline of the door, and with various clicks got the line outline with control points, and more random moves and some backtracking, and finally got the entire door copied. I had Paths, Pen Tool, and Add to Path Area buttons selected when I drew the path. Used this before without problems. Does this make enough sense for someone to tell me what I did wrong? Or at least the easy way to go from path to selection of object? |

Re: Path to Selection
Is it possible you had a layer other than the door selected? Intrigued about getting a door outline. It may be that you copied the path itself, rather than the selection - this can happen if the Pen tool and the path are both still selected. |

Re: Path to Selection
It does appear that I was just copying the path itself, but not sure how that happens. What settings did I have to be able to select the pen tool and the path at same time, and what do I look for next time? |

Re: Path to Selection
Hi cy, the easiest way to go from path to selection: Once your path is drawn use shortcut: 1. 'CTRL + Enter' Turns path into selection. 2. 'CRTL+ J' Copies the selection to a new layer for you. _________________ My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them. |

Re: Path to Selection
It can be really easy to forget something that you wanted to do before you make your path. Did you know it is easy to save a path for later use? Simply click the Paths tab, and drag the working path down to the new path icon. Give it a name, and you have it ready for later use. When you need it again, you can control click on the eye for the path, to create a selection from the path, or just click the path to select the path again. This is a very simple, but often forgotten little technique. |

Re: Path to Selection
Thanks for all the tips. The saving a path was a good one also as sometimes I get interrupted with the process and need to finish later. |
