Chapter 6 loading policement in perspective
I try to clone the policeman as directed. I placed the new layer behind the original. When I clone the first one it is ok but then I get 2 policmen in the second clone and they are put in front of the second one I did. I am missing something here. The overlay multiplies the policemen so with the next overlay clone I get 4 then 8 etc. Each group is cloned infront of instead of behind the one before. I am enclosing 2 screen shots to demonstrate the problem.

Hi Scheinz,

You probably need to change your layer order, so the policemen are behind the first, instead of in front. You can drag each layer to the new position.

But why do I get two policement and then 4 policement then 8 policement and not the single policeman the instructions say I should?

Re: Chapter 6 loading policement in perspective
The Clone tool here is reproducing the entire visible artwork each time. What gets painted when you clone depends on where you clone from, and to. In the example in the book, I cloned very close to the original policeman, only reproducing him once.

If you move the clone source further away, then naturally when there are two policemen visible, cloning them will create four policemen, as you're reproducing the entire scene; cloning the result will make eight, and so on.

It all depends on the position of the clone tool. Clone in the second guard, on a new layer behind the first. If you're happy with his position, don't alt-click again but use the Clone tool once more with exactly the same settings to create a third guard.
