Page 74 - Major color changes. How do I select the roof?
I am not able to select the ROOF. "The roof is selected from the red layer, and made into a new layer". How do I do the above? I am stuck! |

Make sure that you are working on the red layer. Using the pen tool, select the roof. Once you have the roof selected, copy your selection to a new layer. |

The red layer is not a Channel. It is the 1st layer you created from the car's bodywork and then changed the colour to red, which is why Steve called it 'the red layer' |

I feel so dumb, as I still cannot select the roof. Did I miss something? This was what I did. 1) Done step #5. Change car to red color. 2) Ctrl + D 3) Used Pen tool (Path option - not Shape layers) to select the roof from the red layer. 3) Clicked on Layer/Duplicate 4) On "Layer" it showed "car copy" - not the roof itself 5) Ctrl + Sshift + U = the WHOLE car is gray; not just the roof. Please help |

Hello, Use the pen tool to pick out the roof, then turn this into a selection by pressing Command + Backspace ( you then have the marching ants). Then press Command + J; this puts your selection on a new layer, while leaving the original intact. If you want to cut your selection out of the layer and put it on a new layer, press Shift+ Command + J. Give it a go. |

Deobrah: I got the matching ants for the roof (pitched black color), new layer (because in the Layer, it showed "Shape 1" with a link symbol. Next step was Ctrl+Shfit+U to desaturated, but NOTHING happened. I feel so dumb |

Hello, Your pen tool is set as a shape not a path to get that. Change it back to a path and it should work! |

Deborah! Finally I got to step #6. Got the roof desaturated (path vs layer selection). Thank you. Have a challenge with #7. When I duplicated the roof as Roof Copy (Ctrl+J) & brighten it to near white, both Roof Copy and Roof were the same near white color. Have a challenge also with #8, 9. I went into Path, and clicked on Union Jack 1, used Pen tool to trace over Union Jack 1, Ctrl + backspace (marching ants came on). Used Hue/Saturation to the set up on #9, but nothing happened. !!!!  |

Something wrong in my layer set up. I got the roof turned to blue, including the Union Jack 1. What a mess. I am really in the dark. |

HELP, pretty please....Re: Page 74 - Major color changes. How do I select the roof?
I am so frustrated, but determine to complete this exercise, if it's going to kill me. Finally I got to complete #9, blue roof with white Union Jack 1, but I cannot get the red portion of the flag shown on step #10. What layer do I use for step #10? I used "near white" layer on step #7 to draw the outline, ctrl + backspace (matching ants), deleted it. The red color appeared BUT it was just a sliver of it. How do I make it to be a big stripe like in the book? Did I draw too small, too big, what? Grhhhh! |
