CD/DVD templates
Is there anywhere within Photoshop that I can create templates for DVD/CD's? Like somewhere where the dimensions for the CD/DVD are already set and all you need to do is import the artwork Ive been getting into a bit of movie editing and now I want to create personalised images and text to print on the DVD itself. Ive got a very basic program which came with the editing program but its very limited in its capacity to produce decent artwork. Thanking you in advance Anna  |

Hi Tooquilos I find the best way to do CDs and DVD labels is to use Avery's label maker software, Design Pro. It is free from Avery's web site, and it has built in templates that match most of Avery's labels, or you can enter the dimensions of your own labels. You then just import your artwork, place it on the label, and it will position it properly on your label. I have made templates for labels in Photoshop, including one for DVDs, but Avery's software makes it so easy, that I usually just use that. |

My printer prints cds and dvds directly on disc. So cool and easy. |

Yea, so does mine Jenn but I wanted to do something a bit more adventurous with the disc design rather than the mundane clip art they supply. The program Dave recommended is great. You can achieve quite a lot as Ive discovered so far and Im sure there's a lot more I havent found yet |

Oh, it's clip art you want. I don't use clip art much. I use my own photos or scans of albums and cds. I guess it all depends on the type of cds you make, for me its mostly music and videos, but I do have one label program that has tons of backgrounds and artwork It's called Acoustica CD Label Maker and once paid for you can download loads more of artwork. I think I will check out that Avery one too, sounds great! thanks to both of you. |

Why can't you create your own template in Photoshop? You only need do it once. It saves having to learn some other program and it's limitations. |

Thanks Paul. Thats been an other option Ive been playing around with..its just that Im quite new to movie making and dvd designs and just feeling my way around, exploring different options. Anna |

Of course you can do that. I just find getting positioning correct with the Avery software is easier. The Avery software references to the edge of the paper. Photoshop references to the edge of the printable area of the page, and you have to be careful to not change that in the print dialog, or it will not align correctly to your label. Also, the Avery software makes it easy to define new label sizes. So, I do my artwork in Photoshop, but if I'm going to use it on labels of any kind, I print it from the Avery software. |
