Error Messages - CS2 will not load and can't get help!
(1) - On trying to open Photoshop CS2 I'm getting this error message:

"The ordinal 45 could not be loaded in the dll link library COOLTYPE.dll".

The loading process continues, then:

The Photoshop CS2 application will not load and another error message results:

"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry but this is unrecoverable". The loading process aborts.

The 1st message used to refer to file PDFL47.dll. I replaced this from an earlier version (PS v6), then as the software was loading I now get the message referring to - COOLTYPE.dll. This may have been a mistake!

When Photoshop CS2 is Trying to load the full intro screen is not visible, there is a white rectangle instead of the Adobe logo, you can see some details of the application loading, like plugins etc. It seems to get as far as loading fonts then the system error message appears and loading terminates.

I installed 1GB of RAM, everything else is working fine. I've scanned the RAM with "checkit diagnostics" supplied with Norton Internet security and it's fine also.

*** PHOTSHOP CS2 WILL NOT LOAD WITHOUT PRESSING SHIFT + CTRL FOR THE WHOLE OF THE LOADING PROCESS. Then it loads after some fiddling to get all the palletes to load. Then I can use PSCS2 OK. ***

I have repaired/removed and re-installed Photoshop CS2 completely. Still got the problem of the COOLTYPE.dll error message and failure to load.

I have tried to "restore" Windows to previous dates but it will not let me do this either.

Recently I have added one and removed some old applications; unfortunately I can't relate the events to the PS CS2 failure. The only "coincidental" event was installing the extra RAM. I originally had 1GB (2x512 MB units), the additional RAM is a further 1GB (1x1024 MB unit). New total of 2GB of RAM.

I wonder if Norton or Windows update has "tidied up" part of the registry tha it shouldn't? Hmm.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(2) - Now that I can use PS after taking the action described above I cannot load PS Help, I get this Error message:

The instruction at 0x00864a4d" referenced memory at "0x010a0b08". The memory could not be "written".

Hope someone can help!

Delete your Adobe Help Folder and then reinstall Photoshop.
This helped for someone else with a similar problem and hope it helps you too!
