Hi everyone I'm producing a poster for a theatre which will be at least A1. What size artwork and what resolution should I be working in? Cheers Chris |

Hi Chris A poster will be viewed from a distance, so res is probably not as critical than for a photograph. There is a misconception that everything has to be printed at 300ppi, although this will undoubtedly offer excellent quality. However, at A1 it will produce a massive file size also. There is always the option to produce a file at 50% and providing the quality is there is should scale ok. I assume you are having this printed elsewhere, so probably best to ask the print house for advice. Nick |

Yes, 50% size @ 300dpi will be perfectly fine. That's what I recommend to my customers. I have two HP large format printers (a HP5000 and a CC800) and something like that will produce excellent quality at these resolutions. |

Hello Chris, I had to make some A1 blueprints a while ago, very detailed 'illustrations'. I did them at A3 size and at 300dpi (initially I started at 450dpi but that wasn't necessary) They came out very well. |

Thanks everyone A friend of mine has recommended A3 at 300dpi. This is a quarter size of A1. Do you think this is big enough if it goes beyond A1? |
