CS3 only got the hand tool.:(
Hi. I started up Photoshop CS3 just now and noticed that what ever tool I select the mouse pointer is always the hand tool. It not only looks like the hand tool, but it only does what the hand tool does. Even though the other tool selected is highlighted on the left. I've even done the config reset by holding down the special keys when running photoshop. It asked me if I wanted to go back to defaults and I said yes. Still it only lets be use the hand tool. I can click on other tools or use the keyboard short cuts. What ever way I try the new tool is highlighted but the pointer remains the hand tool. It's got me stumped. Any ideas? |

Sounds like a reinstall is need if a prefs reset didn’t work. _________________ Leap and the net will appear |

Like David said it could just be the installation. Which really doesn't make sense, unless you have a bad virus or lost your files when someone other than you deleted them. Did you...erm... get the cheaper version? If so than you may have to get a better, more official, version if that's true. |

Pressing the space bar will always give you the hand tool temporarily in Photoshop. Are you sure it isn't a problem with your keyboard, rather than Photoshop? |

You don't actually say whether this problem with the locked Hand Tool is something that has just occurred with CS3 or whether it came with the first use of CS3. Is the version you have the upgrade vesrion or the complete full-priced package? Have you tried pressing every key (doing so will change the tool as you proceed with each key? Have you downloaded the availble updates for CS3? Have you re-installed CS3? Have you tried System Restore? And finally have you a legit version of CS3?

Thanks all for the suggestions. For some reason it cured itself after I tried it again the next day. Weird. And yes it IS a legit installation. I couldn't afford to buy it for personal use, but it's on a works laptop so they paid  |
