Filer Gallery's not active on the list - please help!
Hi, I was creating a scotch tape and was following the steps in the book for putting on the plastic wrap effect but when I clicked on the filter, the filter gallery isn't active. How do I make it active while creating a tape? Did I do something wrong? Is there a tutorial to create a tape with the plastic wrap effect to make it realistic? Thanks! |

Hi shermay, Check that your file is in RGB mode. Many of Photoshop's filters don't work in other modes. |

Thanks, GKB, for replying back. I checked the mode and it's RGB. I'm still puzzled. Perhaps I'd explain what I did and you could point out any error(s) I may have made. I created a new document then after creating a rectangle and filled it with medium grey. I used the poly lasso to make "teeth" and after I duplicated the layer for flipping it in horizonal way and flipped it vertical. I clicked on the filter and it's still not active. Let me know what you've figured out. Many thanks!  |

I've tried to reproduce the problem as you have experienced it but it works perfectly ok for me. Check to see that you are working in 8 bits / channel (Image>Mode>8 bits/channel). If you have 16 bits selected the Plastic Wrap filter doesn't work although some other filters do work. Gordon |

You're right about the 8 and 16 bits. I checked and discovered that it was 16 and changed it to 8 and now it's resolved. Whew! Thanks! |

Steve, I think 'fountain' is a slight exaggeration - more like a leaking tap. Or should I say faucet? |
