PS cs4 -- 3D Painting Problems
Hey There -- I have the how to cheat in Flash cs3 and love it! I just got the CS4 upgrade and am wildly psyched about the capability to paint on a 3D object! I'm dying to use it, but am having some trouble figuring out how to start painting! I use SketchUp quite a bit for my work, so I export a model as an .obj file and bring have brought it into PS as a new 3D layer. From there, based on all the tutorials that I've seen and read from adobe and online, are not working for me! Any insights into how I can paint on a 3D obj would be great! I've tried exporting from SU in a few different formats and still can't seem to get it working! Thanks in advance for any help! |

Re: PS cs4 -- 3D Painting Problems
Are you having hardware/technical issues or problems getting started using the tools? If it's a hardware issue and photoshop is not allowing you to use the tools to begin with: Does your video card support OpenGL 2.0? I ask this because I too was psyched about the 3-d upgrades as well as the ability to rotate the canvas live. But my laptop has OpenGL 1.5 and I cannot use these features ![]() If you are using an older graphics card that photoshop isn't supporting, there's a patch you could try from Adobe website. Their phone technical support guy led me to try these links. Info about the patch: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405064&sliceId=1 Download Patch: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4051 Make sure this is indeed your problem before trying to use the patch unnecessarily. It works for some, but didn't work in my case. Good luck! -Chris |

Re: PS cs4 -- 3D Painting Problems
Hey Chris - thanks for the suggestion. I checked that out and yes, I've got a sweet new mac pro with ati radeon hd 2600 and it says it supports openGL 2.0. So I'm at a momentary loss. Any ideas? Hugely appreciated as I'm dying to try out this new feature!!! Thanks anyone/everyone! |

Re: PS cs4 -- 3D Painting Problems
Is there some other format I should be bringing into that new 3D layer? Or am I just missing checking off a specific box. I see the Paint On and am apparently in the diffuse layer, which should allow me to paint directly on the model, but no dice. |

Re: PS cs4 -- 3D Painting Problems
From what I have experienced in painting on a 3d model in CS4, it's not easy to get paint where you want. You brush on one part and paint appears somewhere else that's not connected. I don't have CS4 on this machine so I can't try it again, but I don't remember having any problems (apart from the one above). |
