Do you realise that the forum has quite a good search facility.

Re: were are the Symbols
Check your shapes tool, those symbols are all there. You can also get them from your default fonts. If you are on a PC hold down the alt key and type 0169 on the numeric keypad to get the copyright symbol ©. 0153 us the tradmark symbol ™. If you have an ascii chart, you can look up any character in the ascii character list. If you have MS Word, it is built in. You can get it from the symbols menu.

lol, I always wondered what the keyboard shortcuts were for those symbols. How on earth did the programmer decide that combination should be the "shortcut" for the two symbols? Thanks for the hint, Dave.

Re: were are the Symbols
These aren't really "Shortcuts" but a way of accessing the Ascii character map. This method of accessing the character map dates all the way back to the first IBM PCs that were produced. Those first PCs actually came with Basic, which was built in to a ROM chip, just in case you didn't have a disk drive, and couldn't load DOS. (DOS = Disk Operating System). Those PCs had an 8088 microprocessor, and typically shipped with 128k of memory.

The first 128 characters, (0 - 127,) were part of what was called the standard character map. It included some control characters, and the standard characters found on the keyboard. Characters 128-255 were part of the "Extended Character Set." Even to this day, it is not uncommon for some fonts to only use the first 128 characters.

In those first computers, the Alt character map key combination was often the only way to access some of the extended characters. Since those character sets have been now greatly expanded, 255 characters, (Which in Hex is 00-FF.) if often not enough, which is why you now have to type 4 characters. So instead of "Alt 169" it is now "Alt 0169."

Check out this ASCII Character Map
