CS4 minimise and maximise problem
I have had CS4 for about a month now, and cannot find anything in the Help section about minimising a Window and maximising the Window as it was in CS3. The first pic shows a Window opened in CS3, and I can minimise and maximise without affecting the menus, layout etc; however, if I cannot do the same in CS4. Click on the image for bigger: The first image is CS3 The second image is CS4, and the third image is (after faffing around) the image maximised but without the layout such as menu bars. If anyone can help it will be much appreciated

Re: CS4 minimise and maximise problem
Hi Michael Surely the whole point of the new tab system is that you don't have to maximise/minimise windows anymore. Why do you need to? The only difference between screenshots one and two is 10mm of space taken up by the tab. I think the new system is a great improvement, but in response to your question I can't find a way to replicate CS3 either. My only small quibble would be that dragging a layer to a different document in tab mode takes a little longer because you have to hover over the tab for a couple of seconds. |

Thanks for replying Meltonian ; however, I'm still at a loss what this "new tab" system is all about![]() |

Michael I found this to be a problem also. I did discover, however, if you right click on the tab, it gives you the option of "move to new window". Try fiddling with that, may solve your problem? Anna |

Took me a while to get used to the new windows, but I really like them now. Makes sure preferences are set to 'Zoom resizes window' and look at the float in window. ![]() _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Thanks for your help everyone, I still prefer the CS3 configuration though--less clicking |

Re: CS4 minimise and maximise problem
I can't see the problem exactly. When you are viewing a tabbed image it is already equivalent to maximised and you can still see all your toolbars. You can drag layers from one image to another by dragging to the other tab and waiting for the image to come up. Because of this I cannot see when you would ever need images in windows like the old system. If you DID need to see more than one document at once you can use the arrange documents at the top. I'm sure there must be a reason YOU want to do this, but nothing has cropped up in my workflow that requires this. |

You can switch tabbed windows off completely: ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: CS4 minimise and maximise problem
Thanks David, But it appears I had that option already deselected; however, I have since discovered, that if I leave the right-hand side alone (minimise/maximise) and click on the Ps blue square button on the left-hand side I can do exactly what I do in CS3---the price is two extra clicks |

Re: CS4 minimise and maximise problem
The advantage of having several windows open is you can refer to more than one thing side by side. Currently, everyone seems to be pushing the idea of tabs. Personally, I often work where I want to be able to view and refer to things on the same screen side by side, and having to switch back and forth between tabs just won't cut it. Unfortunatley, I havn't been able to afford to upgrade to CS4, and from what I have seen, I think that I may just skip it. |

But you can do that just fine with one click in CS4. You can show your open images side by side, one above the other or in a grid. |
