Beards and Stubble Ch8
I'm trying to work through the Beards and Stubble exercise in Chapter 8 (in the CS4 version its on page 200) In step 7 it says to make a new curves layer and group with the beard layer. How do I do this? What I've tried: I have 4 layers : group1 - Curves 1 - Layer 1 Background I selected layer1 (which has the beard) and then clicked the little 'create new fill or adjustment icon - and selected curves. When I change the curves, it adjusts the whole image. - Jack |

There are several ways to do this. Since I'm using Photoshop 7, this should work in later version. Try one of the following: 1. Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), position the pointer over the line dividing two layers in the Layers palette (the pointer changes to two overlapping circles ), and click. This will group the curves adjustment layer with the beard layer. 2. Select a layer in the Layers palette (in this case, the Curves adjustment layer) , and go to Layer > Create Clipping Mask. |

When on layer just select curves (crtl M) and it will adjust only that layer. As you found out if you select create new fill or adjustment layer curves will affect the whole image. |

In Photoshop, 'group' used to mean what is now called 'make a clipping mask'. That's the technique I'm referring to here! |
