wide screen and photoshop
A friend of mine has just bought a lovely wide 24" screen, which she uses hooked up to her laptop. However Photoshop is all out of proportion, stretched sideways. Only way I could see to get her images in the correct proportion was to set the screen to 3x4. Has anybody got any better ideas? _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: wide screen and photoshop
Hi Vibeke I guess the issue here is that the aspect ratio of the new 24in monitor is not the same as the existing laptop screen. I have an NEC 20WGX2 with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and the appearance settings within Properties / Appearance are set to that resolution. PS works fine and there is no distortion of images. All that happens is the working space is extended giving loads of room around dialogue boxes etc. With my old CRT monitor, the 'Blend If' box, for example, would occupy most of the screen, so it was very difficult to see what you were doing. I'm no expert but would guess that the laptop may not have the functionality to have a two monitor set up, i.e. one for the image and one for the tools, so would suggest that the resolution needs to be changed on the system, if the new monitor is to be used as the primary viewing tool. That may make the image on the existing screen look very small, but that could be the trade off. Nick |

Re: wide screen and photoshop
I have the same settings as Nick 1680 x 1050 and there is no distortion on my LG Flatron 22-inch monitor. It will definitely be the Pixel Aspect Ratio. Now as you live down under you have a choice of European PAL or Japan/USA NTSC standards so you need to check which type the monitor is set to. Mine is PAL so the 1680 x 1050 size works fine and I suspect Nick's is PAL too but you will have to try a different setting if the monitor is NTSC and trying to display a PAL ratio or vice versa. The Ratio for PAL is 16:9 and for NTSC is 4:3 so what you say when you said you had to change the screen to 4x3 sounds like the Monitor is set to PAL and the Graphics Card set to NTSC you could see if there is an option to set the Graphics Card to PAL to match the monitor or see if the Monitor has a setting to change it to NTSC either way will resolve the issue. Hope that helps. |

The best performance from a monitor is achieved by setting the monitor to its native resolution. See the instruction manual for this setting. Many don't set it there as they want larger or smaller detail on screen than the correct setting would give. |
