Close encounters
Has anyone seen the dvd cover of close encounters of the third kind with the boy standing in front of the open door and the very bright light coming through the door but how do you create this effect with the door closed so you can see the light behind the door and the rays of light coming through the seams of the door how do you achieve this effect in photoshop does anyone know. Can you post an example of the sort of image you want to recreate? |

Re: Close encounters
I think this is the sort of thing you are after. I know this is poorly executed, but I think the underlying method is probably a way to go. I created a white layer, added some noise. Did a motion blur to make vertical streaks from the noise. Then used the rectangular to polar filter to make the rays come outwards. Then used the pen tool to draw around the door. Created a selection from this, inverted it and used that as a layer mask for the rays layer. Put the rays layer above the door layer and set blending mode to vivid light with reduced opacity. Then load the layer mask as a selection inverting it again and stroking it with white on a new layer to give the impression of bright light all around the door. I did this in two minutes and it needs more time tweaking. ![]() |
