I am tired of paying people to do our band stuff and not getting the benefits of imagination and creativity put into my website and promo materials. I have been playing with PS for a couple of years but bought the book today to attack these issues myself. Got through the last section in an hour and have mastered the marque ellipses through making mistakes and redoing everything and already I've picked up some great habits. However ... When I try to quick mask I get through step one (Q) but when I select the brush and start to trace the outline of the guy in the slick dog tooth jacket my brush is transparent white and not red. The white doesn't stand out against the foreground well enough to see where I am painting. Also in the magic wand exercise the main image does not get knocked back as it shows in the book. is there a setting for this that I have not set up? many thanks. |

Make sure the brush tool is set to normal and not another blend mode. Also ensure the default colours are B&W, although this should happen automatically. Take care that another selection is not active. Can you post a screen grab? Nick |

If you are referring to No2 on Page 6, Steve has 'knocked back / faded the illustration so that you can see the marching ants more clearly, otherwise they would have been lost in print. The MW tool does not do this. Nick |
