Second click required to resize text layers. Why?
This has been driving me mad for years.

Normally when you want to resize a layer you just pick the pointer (V) tool and grab a handle and drag.

But.. with text layers if you do this it just drags the whole layer. You have to click on the layer first (even though it's already selected), then you can click again to resize with the handles. After the first click the bounding box gets slightly larger.

It only happens when you select the layer through the layers palette and you are pressing SHIFT to keep the proportions the same. Almost all text I resize I use the SHIFT key so this happens all the time to me.

Why does it do this?

hi Paul
I suppose all of this happens when you have the "Show Transform Controls" box active, actually that works fine for rasterized elements and shapes but it doesnŽt for text layers...if you take a closer look, these "Transform controls" are not such, I mean try this:

Press V to access the Move tool and select and mover any layer, it actually shows the bounding box, and now left-click on any of the handles but donŽt drag them, youŽll see the Properties Bar at the top changes so you can access the ACTUAL Transform controls...either by dragging the handles or right-clicking and selecting an option...and this is true for all kind of layers

So when you first drag on the Text Layer handles it is actually shifting to the ACTUAL Transform controls first...rasterize your text layer and youŽll see what I mean

Personally I never have the "Show Transform Controls" active, instead I press Ctrl + T whenever I want to freely resize any layer...

actually I wouldŽve never realised of that issue of working with text layers if it wasnŽt for your question! XD

hope this helps in some way

best regards,
and a Happy New Year
