Rust and Grime Help Me Steve
Steve in the video tutorial from your book you show starting out with RGB and all three channels blank (white) and the danger sign in the alpha channel. I have watched the video and read the chapter in the book in addition to trying to find something in Scott Kelby's Channels book. I cannot figure out where you come up with the rgb and color "normal" in white and having a alpha channel with information (the danger sign) in it. Can you explain the beginning of this process. |

Jim, I didn't show the first part of the process - the creation of the alpha channel containing the Danger sign - because of lack of space, and because I'd already covered creating alpha channels earlier in the chapter. The sign itself is straightforward to create, I thought. Is there any part of this you're having difficulty with? Steve |

Re: Rust and Grime Help Me Steve
Steve; No problem with the graphic in any way. Creating the alpha channel with what appears to be nothing in the other three layers and the RGB layer has me baffled. Did I miss something. I have Kelbys book and Karen Eismann's book and I can't understand how the RGB and color layer can be white (no image) but a image in the alpha mask. |

Re: Rust and Grime Help Me Steve
The alpha channel is completely separate to the rest of the image. In an RGB image, the three channels red, green, and blue do indeed make up the image. Any additional channels you create are for storing selections only. So it's possible to make a new document, add an alpha channel and work directly on the channel without anything appearing on the image. You can only work on the channel in grayscale, of course, but all the painting tools and most of the filters will work. |
